Brian holds Justin responsible for charges on the stolen credit card

"Brian?"

He startled slightly at the sleepy voice, turning to see Justin standing beside him with a carefully guarded expression on his face. "I found this downstairs," he said quietly.

It's 1987; Brian Kinney's a junior in high school. Sequel to Buttered Popcorn.

This story takes place in 1987; Brian Kinney is almost sixteen.

For some unknown reason, three years after Justin left for New York, Brian still hung onto Britin. He spent weekends there, rented it to wealthy gay couples who wanted an elegant place for private functions and used several of the rooms and the grounds for photo shoots. Britin wasn’t a total loss, just not being used as Brian had intended. Still, Brian kept the huge mansion and although he would never admit it, he kept hope well buried in his heart.

Someday I’ll wish this never happened. I’ve thought it a few times. Just maybe not today. That mythical day has been drummed into my mind over and over in so many ways, from so many voices, it’s become one long drone of the same high pitched note my ear can no longer hear. Just another lost sigh carried away by the wind.

Looking back, Brian can’t be entirely certain when it started happening, but he’d venture to guess it had been happening all along. If he’s being honest, he can’t pinpoint the exact moment in time when he fell in love, because he had absolutely no idea that’s what he was feeling. Love was phony, fraudulent. It was pretense on the best of days. What he was feeling for Justin was earth shatteringly real.
