Boy, Brian really has grown a lot by this point, hasn’t he? Even though he’s devastated he’s still resolute and mature enough to try and take things as they come. Way to go, Brian! TAG

He’s trying really hard to keep it together. And yes, I’ve matured him quite a bit in this verse, which is a huge part of why I enjoy writing this version of him so much. He’s still jaded by his past, but he’s realized a lot of things over the years. He’s had this huge trauma that changed him not only physically but mentally as well. Plus, he’s 45 now...we all change as we get older. I just don’t see him staying stuck where he was in his early 30s.

Brian knew. He felt that something was off.
If he remembers the last time Justin was in this same predicament, then he has to know that even if things aren't looking good right now things will get better. It happened once before Justin will make it happen again.
The end oh this chapter was heartbreaking. Brian will pull his shit together and get them all through this. Jennifer will help them.

Nothing about Justin's injuries? Did he hit only his head or does he have other major traumas? Maybe his lost memories from the prom will be back. The brain works so strangely.
It's awful for Brian: it brings back so many bad memories from the bashing and from his own accident. He shouldn't stay alone during that time.

Justin doesn't have any other major injuries other than the head injury and some cuts and bruises. The brain does work very strangely! Makes it a little easier to write a medical fic about it. ;) And yes, Brian is dealing with some unpleasant memories right now, and he isn't in a good place, mentally...

Paintings will be coming back into play soon...they are not forgotten by me, but Brian is distracted right now. Also, I promise this isn't a death fic. ;)

Oh the angst- great chapter, well done- while I would have loved for Justin to have woken up at the end of the chapter- you needed to tell the reader what a difficult time it is for Brian to handle his paralysis in an unknown city. Can't wait for the next update.
