Debbie will live in their hearts forever.

Very good story! Thank you for sharing all this with us. This has been some roller coaster ride for me.

JOAN!!!! How dare she show up at Debbie's funeral?!?

At least Justin got some strong words out to her. Now, at least, Joan knows that when Brian left her home, and found true love. People to stand up for him. He gained a brother and a lover who will do everything possible to protect him.

Will Justin tell Brian once things settle down?

Poor Brian. He never wanted to show his feelings. He didn't want to put himself out there ~ because love hurts. It can shred you.

Where's Brian? He needs to talk to someone - Justin - and quit carrying this burden inside. We're all aware how hard that is, and Brian is worse than most.

I hope Brian will open up to Justin before long about whatever he's feeling. But Debboe was very special to Brian, maybe something other than what everyone knows? (just a guess.)

I'm so happy that Adam and Ron brought the girls. Children have a way of lightening the mood and the heart.

However, Deb would not appreciate the way they are running themselves down.

I was hoping Jen would make an appearance and kick some Kinney butt! She's a great mother. Of course, nobody will ever replace Deb in Brian's heart; he needs to let Jen be there for him.

Thank heavens our boys have each other to lean on. How are they going to make it through the funeral? I hope they're both strong. It's devastating when a love one dies.

Brian's better shape up, or he's going to become sick again, and what good would that do?

Stupid Michael!

Justin not driving since his accident hit home to me very hard. After the drunk driver broke my neck in three places, I couldn't drive either, and sometimes, I still have a hard time riding in a car. I also understand Brian's anger.

I hope Brian recovers soon from this heartbreak. At least he has Justin to lean on.

Ho ~ I was NOT expecting this. Things were going through my head waiting for Justin to get there, and find out what was wrong with Brian.

It always does hit me really hard in any story where Debbie dies because even when they’re set 20 years later and it makes sense, I think we all think of Debbie as being an immortal fixture of Liberty Avenue.

Great ending. Good closure for everyone.  A very sad tale and I'm sure it woudl be difficult to write.

Author's Response:

Thank you! <3 I'm glad you felt it gave everyone closure. Writing death fics is a challenge, but I also love to write emotion, so it fits in well.

Oh that was a perfect ending to this au story I loved the depth you went into of grief of  Debbies boys but ended it with community and love. Good job thank you xx

Author's Response:

Thank you so much! <3 There is more to come in this verse! Next up is some fluff and humor with a dash of angst (just because I'm me). I'm so glad you loved the story.

An absolute tear-jerker, and a lovely way to end this story. I can so easily picture the final scene with people gathering on Liberty Avenue to celebrate Debbie's life and feel close to her spirit, forever linked to the diner and their Avenue.

Author's Response:

Thank you so much! I'm you loved the ending! I felt like I could see it too, when we thought it up and then writing it. And it felt perfect. <3

Amazing story.  We should all die knowing we were as loved as Debbie.  Definitely tissue box time.  Fantastic writing and a perfect ending.  10+

Author's Response:

Thank you so much! She certainly was loved, and so important to so many people. Her presence will be missed greatly. <3

Fantastic story with a wonderful ending.  She may be gone, but not forgotten.

Author's Response:

Thank you so much - you are so right! Her spirit lives on.

Wonderful ending.

Loved the gloom of the funeral to the sun coming out analogy.

From the rainbow hearts the girls made to people out in the street with rainbow flags, it all screams Debbie.

Great job with this story.

Author's Response:

Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it! She would have been so proud of her boys, I think. <3

I didn't expect Joan to show up, but I loved the way you handeled it.  She has no reason to be there except to cause trouble.  Love that Michael said they can do it together.  I thought Michael coming to Justin's aid when he saw him talking to Joan was a great scene.  Great job, as always.  Excellent story.

Author's Response:

Thank you! <3 I'm glad you liked Michael and Justin there. The last thing either of them wanted was for Brian to have to interact with Joan on a day that was already emotionally trying enough.

Thought Joan was going to show up, but no idea Justin would be so venomous when talking to her. Michael was very diplomatic about it. Thank goodness Brian didn't see her, but have a feeling he knew she was there.

Finally Brian's taking his pain in hand so to speak. Him and Rob doing yoga, good.

The graveside service is the last hurdle. They'll make it through. They are doing a bit better now.

Author's Response:

Justin was pissed that she had the nerve to show up, and was in protective mode over his husband, for sure. (And shhhh, don't tell Brian he was doing real yoga...hahaha.)

Why Joanie showed up is beyond me.  Letting someone throw her out would have been nice.

Author's Response:

Justin and Michael took care of it without causing a scene, which was key to making sure Brian didn't know she was even there. ;)
