Still one of the best QAF stories ever! I just have to go back and read it every so often to remind myself how wonderful it is. TAG

All I can say is Wow!! This was amazing from start to finish. I can read this story (and after watching the show) and see how all of this really could have happened with Brian, and why he is the way he is. And Justin; I had no doubts that he would stick with Brian and be there for him, no matter what!!

I just discovered and read your beautiful story. Your handling of mental illness was so spot on. I have always felt there had to be a horrific back story for Brian and you did it justice. Thank You for sharing your gift.

I just read this AMAZING, heart-wrenching story. I noticed it when I looked at one my favorite authors 'Favorites', as it was listed as one of her favorite stories.

I went through so very many emotions while reading this. Outrage, fear, and tears are a few... then so much love for Brian, Justin, their select few family members (listed in ch 29), and the Brothers. This must have been so gut-wrenching for you to write in certain places... but I am so happy you saw it through. I had to take a break from reading after 'Little Boy' had 'Died'.

"Is that how you greet a king, little boy?"  So happy the last thought we heard from Connie Simpson was, I'm in here! Can't you see I'm in here! I hope it wasn't a very nice facility they put him in. I would have liked to have seen his daughter to have received an anonymous letter stating what he had done to Kinney as a child.

The conditional Novotny's...

Debbie... glad to see Brian spoke up about the use of the word 'asshole' and slapping him in his face. Would have liked to see what her relationship with Carl turned out to be.

Michael... him and his... "Christ... It was a fucking mistake, Emmett!"  And, still not owning up to his actions. Did him and Ben stay together? It would be nice to see him all alone.

Mel and her sanctimonious attitude! Her SMUG retort, "He won't stop supporting his son." Well, Ms Marcus, Guess What? The lawyer had other plans for you! They had apparently relied a little too heavily on Brian Kinney's money for their personal use. And the well had dried up. It would have been nice to known just how over-extended they were, and the results of that. And Lindsay... How did she let things get so out of hand? With her upbringing, Didn't she realize you don't bite the hand of the person feeding you? Her parents showed her that. I'd also have liked to have witnessed Brian and Gus' relationship.

Emmett and Ted. Two truly great men. Not falling in with the 'family' bullshit. True-to-a-fault friends. Cutting all ties with the rest of the family, never been so proud.

JUSTIN... The most beautiful man I ever saw. So loving and understanding. Sticking by his man... for better or worse. Willing to give up his life as he knew it, to stand by Brian and his Brothers... Accepting.

"Ladies and Gentlemen... Nearly two years ago I disappeared, literally and figuratively. It wasn't the first time I had disappeared, but it was the first time I had anyone who cared enough to find out why." Brian looked over at his partner. Justin smiled and lowered his head, humbled by the love shining from that hazel eyed gaze.

God, I'm crying just writing this. I've never read a story of this magnitude. You did an awesome job. You either did a lot of referencing for this story, or your knowledge shone forth. I'm humbled by reading it. Thank you for writing this and sharing it with all of us.

Hugs, Cathy

Author's Response:

Thank you so much, Cathy! As you can tell from my lack of responding to my reviews, I suck at that, really, really suck at that. But I am so very gratified that this story gets to people after this many years. My first piece of fiction writing ever and it touched so many... There are literally no words. Brian's character still remains the most complex one, for me, that I've ever run across. Gale was absolutely perfect and much of that is because he physically emoted and it told us much more than the dialogue.

I did do a LOT of research for this one but a lot of it comes from personal experience, as well. It was excrutiating to write at times. Ultimtely, it helped me more than anyone could ever know to put this down "on paper", so to speak.

Thank you for your comments and remember to do something to make yourself Proud!

This story was fantastic. So many twists and turns. I agree that the Brian character is so much more than meets the eye. This was a great exploration of that.

Since finding you over a year ago, and periodically finding fics of yours I hadn't read, your words move me.  You are probably in my top five fan fic writers.  Some of your words stay with me for days.

I hope someday you write a novel for all the world to read.  You should share this vast talent.  Love your phrasing.

The fics feel like a gift.  Thank you.  This was tough to read and rewarding at the same time.

I know I have reviewed this story...somewhere...before, but I couldn't resist doing so again.

I was always haunted by that line, "...but I don't remember anymore" and Brian's face as he said it. This story brings so much to what could have been.

I love the directiion the author took and this remains one of my favorites of all time!

I finished this one a day or two ago and needed time to formulate my thoughts about it, it got to me that much.  It puts my favorite character in such a new situation than what we saw in the show, but completely believable and true to who he is.  The writing was so vivid and the voice so strong that I could absolutely see it all playing out in my head. This one will stay with me for a long time, and I'm good with that. So powerful, so moving, so educational. Thank you for writing this and for sharing it.

Hands down my favourite story. Always will be. It's just so fucking beautiful. I literally have to read it a couple of times a year if not more, just to go through all these emotions again. You, my friend are amazing.

P.S sorry for spamming you with reviews today. Anything to stop me from packing lol

This story was phenomenal. It was heart breaking but rewarding for Brian to finally come to terms with all the secrets that you could see he was hiding and how no one noticed how vulnerable or how much of a caring person he really was. Except for Justin and a select few.

I really do appreciate your writing and the way you see Brian or Justin in your fics. I really am mesmerized by your story and I'm speechless with your work. I really admire you a lot and I'm happy you write fics with such talent... We're lucky to have you as a writer. Thank you once again for this amazing story.

Wow, this was absolutely amazing! I love psychological angst...I was a psych major in college and I cannot believe this was your first attempt at fanfiction...I am very impressed.

I can't wait to read the rest of your stuff. I have read Appositive & An Intimate Suicide...heartbreaking but incredible!

Do you have any fantasy/vampire stories in you? lol Just a suggestion.

What an intense emotional and inspiring story. I was not surprised that Brian decided to keep his "brothers because they are all a part of  who he is. And Because Justin loves Brian "warts and all", being together is what matters. Great job and looking forward to reading some of your other postings.

excellent! love this last chapter - pulls it all together - and to the victor go the spoils

I love a Brian who is so able to love and be loved - despite enormous past pain and hurt - that he truly feels happy with his today - and hopeful for his tomorrow

And I love a story where survival is the main character!

thanks

I read in one night all the last chapters you posted this week as I couldn't stop.

It's a wonderful story, with really hard parts but in the end, Brian seems at peace.

I loved how you managed to deal with Debbie and Michael; so very true how conditional their love was. How he was able to put Debbie in front of the truth; so painful but I was so glad he did it. I won't even comment regarding Michael.

As for the girls, Melanie is at her worst and Lindsay is not quite better.

Fortunately for Brian and Justin, the new family core is as strong as needed for them to go through the hell towards a smoother environment.

You did well!!!

I was surprised you kept some of the "brothers" as Justin seemed having problems to adjust.

Not knowing if this is a reality for people suffering from this kind of disease, I guess it's made sense in your story.

I hope in the far future, the "brothers" will finally disappear, meaning Brian is at peace with his true self.

Thank you for your talent and I hope to read other stories from you soon.
