"He likes people to think he is so emotionally strong, that nothing can hurt him. But that's a lie he wants others to believe. He's so very vulnerable. He hurts."

It always amazed me that none of the others in the "family" ever realized that about Brian. Justin could see it and that's why they were so good together.

Shades of Sybil.  Like Kaz, since he's going to be the one able to straighten this all out.  It's not going to be pretty.

I just keep reading and re-reading these chapters...'their kind of love was only a broken bone away from the kind of love Brian's parents had for him' - so profoundly true!

Trying this again... I had one written and it flew off into the ozone somewhere!

I've never understood fans who give the family a total pass on their treatment of Brian, as if that's the way 'families' act, or Brian brought it on himself, or beause they were there for Brian as a child they aren't responsible for their abusive behavior as adults. Yes, I know Brian can be an asshole. That's a given, but he's merely the whipping boy so much of the time. It's painful to see that, especially from Deb.

Yes they are loving much of the time, but then again so are most abusive people. Just because someone doesn't always punch you in the gut doesn't mean it isn't abusive when they do punch you in the gut.
