Hilarious story from the beginning till the end! The names Michael is using are pretty funny and so telling about his state of mind. The fact that he thinks Jenny is talking about Brian and not Boy Wonder is very telling (projection much?). The teasing between Justin and Brian is wonderful. The fact that Justin already knew about Jenny's crush and why is also very telling. Poor Jenny having half Mel (hating Brian) and half Michael (idolizing Brian) can't be easy every day.

Thank you for posting this as a stand alone: it will be easier to find/read it again in case of a bad day.

After reading a dramatic story tonight, this was a great way to take away my sad thoughts.

A fun addition. I love thinking about the Justin and Brian dynamic with the kids as teens.

I read your response but I just don’t agree. I guess I’m in the minority in the way I see things, because to me the fact that Brian searched him out at all meant that he wanted to straighten things out between them. Sorry but I don’t see one as being more wrong or right than the other. I’m also not one to give Justin a pass because of his age....and like you said in your post this isn’t meant to be confrontational I just see things differently. So yeah, maybe he should have stayed to hear Brian out.

Author's Response:

And you're entitled to that opinion; we'll just have to agree to disagree on the way we see it. :) And while I agree that neither of them are more right or wrong than the other, I do feel that Justin has every right to feel hurt and disillusioned and not want to hear what Brian says at this point in time. Brian showing up was nice, but just as Justin's age doesn't absolve him in your eyes, neither does Brian's sudden willingness to listen absolve him of all the shitty things he did to Justin in my eyes. Thanks for reading! :)

While Justin has a point about it all, my heart was breaking for the both of them through they entire scene.

Author's Response:

Mine broke for them as well. It was difficult to write as I wanted to shout, 'No!' And then wrap them both up in swaddling and tell them everything would get better, it really will. But my muse is an evil bitch who said 'no happy endings for you.' *sigh* Thanks for reading!

Your killing me.

Great story.

Author's Response:

Yeah, as someone that likes happy endings for our boys, it was tough to write. But sometimes, the muse wants what it wants; and this case she wanted Justin to finally unload all the bile that had been building inside him. She's evil like that. :) Thanks for reading!

This is a much better way for them to get back together. Very “them”.

Excellent story.

Author's Response:

I do wish this had happened rather than them dancing around each other for a while longer. Although, I was just glad that the whole Ethan nonsense was over by that point and the orginal scene was beyond hot on it's own. Thanks for reading! :)

You have already found their voices. 😉 sweet, loving and very sexy.

Having Emmet the unwilling audience was a delicious addition. It made the whole thing hotter.

Love this ficlet. And if this is your first QAF story, well.. I can’t wait to read more.

Author's Response:

Thanks! I will admit that I was nervous at first, (as anyone is posting in a new fandom), but the fandom has been very supportive as I tested my new wings and I've had a lot of fun with this couple. And poor Em...didn't want to interrupt, but so not wanting to be there at that moment in time; and then again, so wanting to watch because who wouldn't it? Thanks for reading! :)

Difficult story to read, but so true. I hope Brian will think about what was said and done and see Michael for what he is.

Author's Response:

It was hard to write. I love a happy ending. But Justin just wasn't open to that in this scene. At least not yet. And I couldn't blame him, because Brian had thrown his feelings in his face so many times and told him over and over again in little ways that he wasn't worth changing for. Now, true, with Brian you need to pay attention to his actions, not his words, but when you hear something over and over again, it whittles away at your confidence and your faith in someone. And sometimes, in order to protect yourself and rebuild that faith, you have to walk away. So he did. Thanks for reading! :)

I so wish that scene would have played out that way on the show.  So hot!

Author's Response:

It would have been nice if they'd gotten back together than night, rather than making us wait until the end of the next episode. Because we all knew at that point that it was going to happen. They couldn't take their eyes off of each other. Thanks for reading! :)

The original scene was super hot (especially with the music that was playing), but your version is so much more: Brian is claiming Justin and Justin is willing to follow.

Great job!

Author's Response:

I loved that scene - the music, the lighting, the way they couldn't keep their eyes off of each other and how their eyes were full of longing and desire for each other. It's an amazing scene. And the actors did such an amazing job building it without even exchanging any dialogue whatsoever. But I just need more. I so wanted them to resolve things that night, because we all knew that them getting back together was inevitable at that point. :) Thanks for reading! :)

Now this I would dearly love to have seen.  It was perfect.

Author's Response:

Thanks. It was hard to write, as I really wanted a happy ending for them and I hated seeing Justin so embittered in it; but I couldn't blame him either. Not when he had been told over and over again in many ways that he wasn't enough, and that Brian was never going to change. It's hard to have someone doing that, and yet expecting you to continue on as if it didn't matter. Sometimes, the only thing you can do to preserve your sanity and get your head straight, is to walk away and hope that one day, you'll find each other again. Thanks for reading! :)

I think you have found their voices pretty good: Brian and Justin are so in character, as is Emmett and then Jennifer, who learned how to help her sons while they needed some quality time.

Who was talking about Justin's paintings? I hope not his father or the art critic who "sent" him to NY.

Great story!

Author's Response:

I honestly don't know who was talking about the paintings; but I do know it was complimentary and that, at the very least, leaves out Craig. I'm guessing some admirer. Thanks for reading! :)

Well damn....that was depressing. Justin was acting like a total shit here. In fact he had one hell of a nerve because while he was trying to justify himself, he was being more hypocritical than he accused Brian of being. Instead of walking off, he should have stayed to hear what Brian had to say like an adult.

Author's Response:

Why should he have? I'm not asking that to be confrontational either; but really, why should he have? He had been trying to connect with Brian in many ways for weeks leading up to that moment and had been shot down at every turn. And keep in mind that this is an AU scene in which Justin never got involved with Ethan. It was a one time fuck; Ethan tried to pursue more, but Justin shot him down, because in this universe, Justin realized from the beginning that Ethan was never going to give him what he really wanted - Brian's love and acknowledgment that he had a place in his life.

But just because he recognizes that doesn't mean that he has to stay and listen to, what he's certain at this point, will be nothing more than more of Brian's mind games. Because, in this universe, they have gotten to that point. And I love Brian, he's a great character, but he can be quite the shitty person when he wants to be. And in this universe, he chose to take the word of Michael, who has never made it a secret that he wanted Justin gone, instead of confronting him on it; and he chose to act like a petty asshole and shove his tricking into Justin's face once again.

So, Justin walked away; and Brian has to reap what he's sown.

Why should he now listen to Brian when he shows up? Because he's a better person? Because he more mature than that? He's a heartbroken 20-year-old kid, that yeah, is being a bit petty right now; but he is giving nothing back that he hasn't recieved in spades. I don't see him justifying his actions, as he has nothing to justify.

He did explain why some rules seemed to have been broken, but did it as a courtesy, not to justify his actions; because there was nothing he needed to justify. He knew the guy's name before he became a trick; he didn't seek it out. He didn't get his number until after the break up, when they became friends. Ethan kissed him, not the other way around. And really what if he had initiated it? What does it matter in the end? So he had a brief flirtation with someone else. So, he briefly wondered if things might not be easier with someone else. Brian fucked a different guy every night without thought or concern to how that made Justin feel. And I defy any one to sit here and tell me that they wouldn't have done the same exact thing if they were putting up with Brian's bullshit. In canon Jsutin caved to what he thought he wanted. In this universe he didn't and chose to walk away instead.

And now, he's supposed to shunt all those hurt feelings and the anger aside to hear Brian out now that he's finally gotten his head out of his ass, and wants an explanation? I don't think so. He doesn't owe Brian anything.

Sorry, again, this wasn't meant to be confrontational, but I do find it irritating that Justin is often expected to be the better person when it comes to interacting with Brian. He's human; and a very young, inexperienced human at that. And sometimes yes, he's a shitty person that comes off as petty and ungrateful - Vermont anyone? To expect him to be otherwise makes no sense to me.
