I felt a little squicky when the flashback first started. I was praying, "Lord, Don't let him start the handjob!" Thankfully you didn't let it go too far. That is one nice thing Deb did for Brian when he was a teenager. Not so much of anything else.
That's right, Pip! Work Him, Work Him!!! Does Michael get to sleep without having his test scores up where Robbie demands them to be??? That's one of the wonders of Boot Camp. They can make you stay awake and do exercises all night, while still making you keep up with your classes during the day! Now he might have to ward off any attackers, too. Loved the use of the pictures. Ooohh, I had almost forgotten about Michael's decent into Boot Camp. Robbie made certain he was in for a hell of a ride. And what's he trying to pull? As Pip said, when faking, fake well! Christ Michael! This is the Military. They have seen every trick of the trade. It doesn't fly in the Military. Ask my son-in-law. He's a Senior Chief in the Navy, and has quite a few under him. The stuff these guys pull is borderline crazy. It's too bad for the enlisties these days. They just boot them out. Not gonna happen for Michael. They will just work him harder. Did you ever see the movie, "Officer and a Gentleman", in the early 80's? He was slammed in Boot Camp.

Jack Zyniaf sounds like he was just who Brian needed that moment and he might have a few choice words for Michael, it does make you wonder who else was on Michael's hit list when they got in his way of having Brian all to himself?
And would they like to see Michael get what is coming to him, also makes me wonder if Lindsay hurt others who got in her way in college when Brian didn't pay attention to her?
Michael will never pass those test when it comes to getting who or what he wants he can be quite smart, but when it comes to doing something just himself without any benefits he is a lazy Ass!

Really nice chapter. I'm glad Brian had the boys to help him understand, and get a grip on the whole 'feeling like he did something wrong'. Nobody could connect with him like that, unless it happened to them to. I also think it has a lot to do with them being family. Brian has never trusted easily, so with the boys being his nephews, he would attempt to listen to them a little better.

Peter and John coming to talk to Brian as good they all have to say, shout, believe that they aren't to blame for others misery and self-loathing.
They are loved because they send love out into the world and they send more then they expect in return.
Deb, Michael, Joan, Jack, John Senior and Lindsay chose to see the burdens around their neck instead of the blessings they were given, and they chose to punish the ones they considered blights to their happiness, instead of looking in the mirror and seeing that every bad thing that has happened is their fault, not an innocent baby who did not ask to be born.
Deb used Brian to save herself from facing the truth that she crippled Michael before he was born and by doing that she crippled herself, by treating Michael like an angel despite his bratty behavior it as easy to put the blame on an abused kid who saw a crumb of love as more precious than gold.
Deb saw Brian as her escape from having to always cater to Michael then when Brian started rising above Michael she tried to knock him down, but Brian always had more strength so when he achieved his dreams she saw Brian's money as hers and his reputation as her due for bandaging up, feeding him and giving him shelter.
And Michael as her minion saw Brian as his and expected his due too for Allowing Brian into his life.
All they saw is what they could take but none of them saw The Real Brian, because if they acknowledged how strong Brian he really become despite their attempts then he would leave them behind and they would be nothing.
See it isn't just the money they want they want the charisma, intelligence, kindness, strength and tenacity Brian has to fight to LIVE.
They want the polish Brian was born with but they never achieved.
Hell even Lindsay craved it and she was born with privilege, but despite the silver spoon she couldn't pull off the inherent grace Brian possessed, she used trickery and her open legs to get ahead, Brian did it with sheer determination.
Brian never expected the world to hand him anything which is why he cherishes everything he gets, because he earned it from.his reputation on Liberty Avenue to his reputation as an honest hardworking Adman, the others expect it to be handed to them on gold platters and don't appreciate what has already been given because they want more.
That is why they will always lose and Brian will always win.
They need Brian in order to be seen but Brian didn't need them at all.
