--He had probably taken Justin's biggest dream from him without giving Justin's feelings a second thought. What kind of asshole did that make him?--

The Michael and Lindsay kind of asshole. Nothing less. Brian tried to set the rules for what Justin "wanted" in life in the same way that Michael and Lindsay tried to set the rules for what Brian "wanted" in life. They even had the same motives - because it's what *they* would have wanted for Brian/Justin. Brian even kidnapped Justin's son (morally speaking) in order to make that a reality, just like Michael and Lindsay tried to do physically. Then, Brian even colluded with Jen/Deb/family to accomplish the "kidnapping" in the same way that Michael and Lindsay colluded to accomplish the physical kidnapping. Lord have mercy!

Yep, I'm reading this again, (for the umpteenth time LOL) and the parallels between Michael/Lindsay behavior and Brian behavior are still as obvious to me as on the first read. Craftily done, by the way. ;) But Brian wants Michael/Lindsay to burn in hell for *their* behavior and we see Justin forgiving Brian for basically the same behavior. I honestly can't reconcile that dichotomy.

Seriously, if I were in Justin's shoes, the anger would have gone on and on and on for years. That was one freaking hell of a betrayal by *everyone*.

I have to say, Moffel, this story has kept me thinking for years! Excellent! LOL

Author's Response:

Wow, thanks! That comment just made my day :)

I am glad that you're still enjoying the story.

To be fair, Brian wouldn't have forgiven himself either...It's a good thing that Justin is not Brian, or this would have been a very different story with a very different ending :(

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I really appreciate it :)

This is gonna sound like an odd compliment but you writing is super effective. I started reading this a day ago for the fifth time and this was the first time I could get farther than a chapter or two, before The angst at the beginning kept making be cry so much I couldn't continue. I think that being able to pull and emotional response is the hallmark of good writing, because not all great writing makes you feel good, a story that can spark joy is wonderful, and a fairly easy sell to readers but one that can make you cry but keep coming back in some sort of masochist haze is I really hard think to do and you do it wonderfully

Author's Response:

Awwwww, thank you so much for your comment :)

I am glad that you made it past the beginning. I know this is not an easy story to read and very painful, especially in the beginning, but I hope that the ending will make up for it :)

I am sorry for the tears this story caused, but I hope that it was worth it and you still enjoyed reading it.

Thanks!

I do not know  why but I never liked Gus

Author's Response:

Really? I thought he was cute, but that unfortunately, we never really saw enough of him on the show :(

At times it seemed like Gus and JR were nothing more than props to be handled by the adults in the show... I wish there would have been more focus on Brian's relationship with Gus....

I so loved this! Luke and Gus were so cute! I have laughed and cried with the characters.

All I can say is give us more. Please! I think they need a little girl to spoil. With two big brothers protecting her...hint, hint.

Author's Response:

Thanks for taking the time to read the stories and for letting me know that you enjoyed them :)

Hint has been received and taken ;) As said to some other people before, at this point, I have a couple of ideas for a sequel, but nothing definite yet. I am currently working on another universe that I am putting Brian and Justin in and my focus is on that. After two stories, as much as I loved Brian, Justin and their boys, it was time for a break...

But never say never ;)

I have really enjoyed these 2 stories, although I'm still not sure Justin should should have forgiven brian so easily. But it was inevitable once they were living in the same house together.  Of course I am still enjoying 'the pittsburgh years' as I do love a good Michael/Linday bashing!

I have been thinking maybe you could do a one off follow up to this forward 2/3 years. Michael gets released/paroled from prison and we see if anything has changed! Never say never!

Thanks for your excellent writing,

Deb

Hi again or for the last time! I can't tell you how sad I'm that this journey now came to an end! First of all, I want to thank you for the way you published this story. I've already told you that I rarely read stories that aren't finished or published at one go. I've done it a few times and nearly went crazy if a very exiting story was canceled. I mean, there are always private reasons and we have to accept them but it's hard for the readers. For me, it's also always hard to accept that a good show has a break for a year or something. You always have to get involved in this story again  and again. So, I really liked your concept with publishing two chapters a week. To be honest, if you'd published your story all at once, I wouldn't have been able to stop reading, wouldn't have given you so many detailed reviews and would have neglected my family. :-) Another advantage in publishing it the way you did, was, that we always had time to think about it very exactly. So, thanks very much for this!

Then, I've already praised your writing-style. But I have to tell you again, it was a pleasure to read and you are very talented! Now, to the story. At the beginning, like some other readers, I was skeptical that I could endure what Brian did here to Justin. But by the way you've set out Brian's reasons, and also by your characterization of Justin, you've managed to convince me that makes all sense. You've chosen a difficult topic that is about forgiveness and understanding and about questioning one's own mind and leaping over one's own shadow for the benefit of other people or in this case of children. This isn't easy and will probably often be different in real life, but hey, that's what stories and fiction are for... to show how it should or could be done.

Especially to Brian and Justin: Your story is about true friendship, understanding, trust. The time in New York seems to have done Justin well. He's developed in your story to a very mature and wise human. Brian has also undergone very important developments and changes during these five years. And by the recent encounter with Justin, he finally realized that you shouldn't take other people decisions, but sometimes seek help or take a risk. I'm very glad that the two have come together again through an initial friendship, that they have learned, or Brian in particular, to open up, to talk to each other, to make decisions together. Otherwise a renewed relationship wouldn't have been possible. In my opinion, you've let them stay in charakter and portrayed them as we know them from the show or as I see them.

Well, this epilogue. What can I say, it contains everything I had hoped for. It's so nice to see them finally as a happy family and I'm happy for all four of them that after all this time of suffering - and they all have, maybe Luke least, since he's still so young, a lot of pain, cheating and experience suffering - finally find peace and just live and enjoy their being together. I must admit, I will miss them, especially Luke and still hope for a sequel... But for now, thank you so much for sharing this wonderful, amazing, very well written story! Warmest regards and a big hug!

Author's Response:

Thank you so much for joining me on this amazing ride and for all your amazing comments! I can't tell you how much I have appreciated reading your thoughts and comments and how happy they have made me over the last months :)

I totally understand what you're saying about abandoned stories and WIPs. That is exactly why I swore to myself never to publish a story like that. I hate nothing more than reading a story and then having to wait several months at times before the next chapter is up. When the next chapter comes, I have no idea what happened before and most of the times don't even really remember the story anymore. It's really annoying and one of the reasons why I mostly only read finished stories. I do get that writers have personal lives and issues as well and we all have time constraints, but when you start posting a story (in my opinion!), you make a commitment to your readers and they deserve kind of regular updates. What is so hard about finishing a story first and posting it then? That way you are not under any time pressure to get it finished because no one is waiting, no one even knows about the story but you and once it's finished and you start posting, you'll have time to actually interact with the readers and talk about the story as you're not pushed by time to get another chapter up soon. For me it's the only way I can imagine writing and publishing my stories, to be honest. I do get that everyone is different though, so fair enough to writers that handle it differently :)

Yes, this is a story. People should never forget that we're talking about a man giving birth to a baby here ;) I do like that people made parallels to their own lives and got thinking what they would be doing in a situation like that, but at the end of the day it's "just" fiction and not a real story, so no reason to get angry about the characters not doing what we might like them to do or what we might think would be most/more realistic. It's a story, it's fiction and it's supposed to show us what could be and to bring us fun :)

To me both Brian and Justin needed to grow up and change. If they had gotten back together the way they were at the end of season 5 or had continued their relationship like then, I don't think they could have worked. Of course I'd like to think so, but realistically speaking, they both needed to do some more growing up to be able to have a "proper" relationship with each other :)

I do have some ideas for the future of the Kinney-Taylors in this universe, so might actually return to them at one point. You never know :)

Thank you for this sweet ending. You wrapped it up beautifully. Justin better enjoy his Saturday morning snuggles with Gus, because at eleven, they probably won't last much longer.  It was good to see the whole family has been supportive of Brian and Justin as a couple.

Regarding my last review, I'm so very sorry if I offended you with my suggestion of checking out the Plot Bunnies. I certainly wasn't suggesting you couldn't come up with a story idea of your own. What I only intended it to mean, is there are so many great story ideas that I wish some gifted author would pick up. I'm not a writer, so I had never looked at writing a story the way you described it, by starting one 'born in your mind'. But, you proved yourself in my eyes with your two piggy back stories. I wouldn't mind seeing this verse revisited about three years into the futher when Mikey gets out of prison and learns of the 'Kinney-Taylors'. That could prove interesting.

I would be happy with just seeing another story from you. You're one of the gifted authors I was referring to. Your story-telling is well-written and an amazing read. Thank you for honoring us with this story.

XOXO ~ Cathy

Author's Response:

You are very welcome :) Thank you for joining me on this wild ride and hanging on till the very end. I know this was not an easy story for Brian/Justin fans as they started in a very bad place and were separated for about 98% of the story. So thanks for hanging on till the end!

I have really loved reading your comments and thoughts and appreciate you taking the time to share them with me :D

Nah, you weren't offending me at all. I am sorry if my reply seemed that way, but I was not offended at all. I basically just wanted to explain my writing process to you and why Plot Bunnies don't usually work for me. It was a very kind suggestion from your side, so don't feel bad about it at all :*

I actually have some ideas in my mind about revisiting this universe. Writing two back to back stories at the same time kind of made me feel really connected with the charatcers, so there is a definite chance that I will revisit them again at some point in the future. After two stories, it was definitely time for a completely new story, though and that's what I am working on at the moment. Something very, very different from this universe :)

Unfortunately or fortunately, depending on how you look at it, that story i am working on at the moment has turned into something way bigger than I have originally expected, so it might take me a bit longer to finish than I would have liked. Especially seeing how I have changed jobs recently and my private life is rather busy at the moment. If only I were a recluse with no friends and had time to write more than I do now *lol*

But we still have the Pittsburgh Years, so I am not completely gone yet ;)

Well what can I say, we’re at the end of the journey and I can’t get excited about the happy ending. For me personally, I think it’s because I feel Justin forgave everyone too quickly and easily. Not one of the people who betrayed him had to do more than say sorry or that they did what THEY felt was best and he backed down. Brian didn’t really put in the work to earn the trust back, but he created situations where Justin couldn’t say no to doing what he wanted. Sure it’s good that the boys have both of their fathers around, but they should have taken a bit more time and done a lot more work to get to this place. It still burns me that for all those years they reaped the benefits of watching Luke grow but in the end Justin was made to turn the other cheek. He wasn’t truly allowed to vent his anger and frustration for more than a few moments (I know how you feel about this particular issue though) but I think it would have helped if he had. Sometimes trying to push traumatic issues into the background can still hurt in the long run. Hopefully they continue to work on those issues so they can completely heal.

Author's Response:

I am not really surprised by you not being excited about the happy ending- you never really got into the characters the way I portrayed them, so it would have been weird if you would have suddenly "felt" them at the end. So I am not really surprised, but glad that you decided to stay and read the story anyway to the end :)

I won't get into the details of how I disagree with some of your statements about Justin and some of the other characters. We've been there before and there really is no point as we have fundamentally different views on forgiveness and moving on. But as said before: That's okay! That makes life interesting and I have always enjoyed reading your point of view because it always gave me an opinion so very different from my own and from the characters in this story.

So thank you for that - I appreciate it more than I can say!

Live and let live has always been my motto and as long as people are happy, it's really for them to see how they'll get there :) One of the true beauties of life: We can be so very different and still achieve the same things in life in different ways.

Thank you for all your comments and staying with me on this journey to the bitter end - I really, really appreciate it :)

Hi Moffel83,

This has been an awesome journey and I hate it see it come to a close. Your story shows even after betrayal, if two people love each other with the depth Brian and Justin have always felt for each other, they can overcome anything. And that's what makes me proud of you with this story. You've written a poignant story that shows true love can survive anything.

An Epilogue. How many months in the future do you plan for this setting? Are you going to have them marry? I'm sure Brian still has the rings from the wedding they planned to have five years prior.

I will miss this. But, just a suggestion... If you'd spend an hour and looked through the Plot Bunnies, I'm very confident a story idea will come to you. There are a lot of really interesting ones in there. Or, have you already started a new story? Whatever it turns out to be, I will look forward to your next adventure. I love your writing style and your story-telling. Good Luck...

XOXO ~ Cathy

Author's Response:

All good things must come to an end and unfortunately, this story is no exception :(

I want to thank you for your kind comments and for joining me on this crazy ride!

Just be patient and wait and see ;) I don't believe in spoiling people. Other people are reading comments as well, so I will never post big spoilers in a reply to a comment. Just be patient. Apparently patience is a virtue or so they say :P

Thanks for your suggestion about the Plot Bunnies, but honestly, that's not how I write: I don't write other people's ideas. Not because I don't like them or don't want to, but just because I can't motivate myself to. I can only write an idea that has been born in my own mind. Otherwise it doesn't feel real to me and I can't really get into it and connect with the characters. I have tried it before in another fandom and it doesn't work for me. I need the whole process of having an idea somewhere in my head and forming it and bringing it to life until it turns into a complete outline for a story. I need the whole process from beginning to end or it won't work for me...

And who is to say I don't have other story ideas on my own? You don't seem to have a lot of faith in me ;)

In fact I have been writing on a Brian/Justin AU and have also toyed with some ideas for a sequel to the Back for Good universe. Ideas are never the problem - time is. I have a job, I have friends, I have a social life. Unfortunately, my life doesn't have enough hours to let me write as much as I'd like at times. But well, patience is a virtue, so in the end, I'll get there and will get it finished :D

The epilogue will be up tomorrow - see you then :D

Hi again! Yeah, I totally agree with what you said about this "foursome-scene" I didn't like it either, on one hand because I also don't think that Justin was much into it and on the other hand because of the way they act after. They seemed to be so distant in contrast to this other couple. And the highlight was the terrible discussion about the duration of their relationship. Terrible scene. It hurt to see them like that.

Oh, Justin had been wrong... They couldn't remedy this in the morning... :-) And again, Luke's sooo cute! "I think Papa likes you" And I really like these developments and a much matured Brian who is able to allows himself to find pleasure in cuddling but somehow he often liked to cuddle with Justin, he wasn't just able to admit it. So, great chapter although I have to say, I can't tell you how sad I'm because we're reaching the end. And may I have for the last time a suggestion? I still miss the rings and I'm sure, Brian kept them and now they could finally come to good use... But maybe that's just my imagination. Hm, I'm really sad. And that leads me to another question... Are you already writing or have you planned to write another story about those two??? I would really really love to read more... Looking forward to Wednesday and warmest regards!

Author's Response:

I love Luke and I love scenes with him - this one is no exception :)

Brian has always liked to cuddle with Justin, we saw it on the show quite a few times or at least it was heavily implied that they would do things like cuddling as long as you didn't mention that it was cuddling and didn't give it a name ;)

As for the rings - they won't appear in this story. Sorry to disappoint! The epilogue won't travel that far into the future and it would have just been too early for the rings in my opinion. That is not to say that I might not revisit these two again at a later date. Who knows?

I have toyed with some ideas for these two in this universe, but haven't written anything yet or even started on anything. After writing two stories in the same universe, I have moved on to something completely else and am now working on a Brian/Justin AU story. That is gonna take me some more time though. I have recently changed jobs and didn't really have a lot of time to write a lot. Especially with preparing two chapters twice a week to be posted. Hopefully now I'll have some more time for writing and finishing that AU story :)

Thanks for your kind words - the epilogue will be up tomorrow :)

After the last emotional chapter, it's great to have this kind of scene with Brian and Luke while Justin is pretending to sleep, but is listening to them. The truth is coming out of the kids and Justin can witness this intimate moment where Luke tells Brian that Justin loves him and why he is sure of it.

The family is finally reunited.

Wonderful chapter: they are so careful with each other, so thoughtful. It's good that they were able to talk about Luke's birth and the pregnancy.

I love these quotes: “Coming and staying” and the "Try being fucked without lube by a rhino". The first one is a statement they are both needing and the last one is Brian being himself.

Didn't they use a condom? I guess they have had some tricks during the 6 years they have been away from each other. Brian not being prepared shows that he might not have tricks coming to Britin and that he didn't want to pressure Justin.
