It's amazing, Brian refuses to even think about hurting Debbie but he just trashed all over Justin's feelings but keeping his son from him.  It's going to take a lot more chapters before I could even think about forgiving Brian.

Author's Response:

Brian did what he did out of love - at least that's the way he sees it. He knew that he would be hurting Justin, but he justified that to himself by telling himself that Justin was not ready to be a father. That Justin was too young to settle down and have a family and that Justin deserved a chance at his career. In Brian's mind he sacrificed his own happiness and relationship so Justin could have the career he deserved...

He has a fundamentally different view on things than you do and doesn't see it as trashing Justin's feelings.

Hi! I just have to answer to your answer because I have to tell you that I'm so glad that there will be more chapters than 30! But your answer was also what I was afraid of and worried about... It just can't be that easy and it can't stay as peaceful and harmonious as it's now. "Die Ruhe vor dem Sturm"... To be honest, I would like to see them happily together - to me, they just belong together - but I do realize that would be too fast and unrealistic. Although I don't want to see any of them suffering, I hope that Justin will be less affected - he just suffered enough. And no, I haven't forgotten about the family picture, but you said it would take some time and I try to be patient although it's so hard... :-)

Hi again! Great chapter and again, the most important thing: You let them talk and decide together how to handle a situation. It's so good to see Brian asking Justin for his opinion and them deciding together what to do or what would be the best. And it was the right decision: Debbie is just happy for them! I'm also happy for all of them having such a great and peaceful Thanksgiving together. Gus and Luke are sooooo cute. Would have liked to know what Justin and Brian were thankful for...

That's really crazy. Justin reproaches himself that he was thinking only of himself and his sons and his situation ... He is really too good for this world and for that I love him. but somebody should tell him that he shouldn't feel guilty. I don't mean that as a justification, but no one thought of him... And somehow Debbie had firsthand experienced what it feels like to be unable to accompany a child, a grandchild in life any longer. This whole family drama is really terrible and I'm curious... Mel really behaved this way? Was she really blaming Brian on everything? I could imagine Justin trying to contact her...

Jennifer's frowning... Hm, I don't know. Is she really worried about Justin? She knows how much Brian loves Justin....

I've read somewhere that your story has 30 chapters... We're already at Chapter 24. But I feel like there still should be so much going on and happening. And I miss still a little bit the emotional side. I mean, Brian had this conversation with Ted and we know he still loves Justin and he seems to be following Ted's advice as well, giving Justin time. But I would really like to know how Justin is feeling... How does it look inside him... Dos he think about Brian... Is there longing or still sadness... Or is he so occupied with his sons, that he hasn't got the time to think about their situation... And I'm a little bit afraid... They seem so good together and everything seems to get along quite well... I think, I'm just afraid, that something dramatic is about to happen... Thanks again for an amazing story and warmest regards!

Author's Response:

Yes, Brian has learned his lesson and he's living by his promise to Justin that from now on they will make decisions concerning their sons together. Brian is really trying here ;)

Yeah, wouldn't it have been interesting to know what they are thankful for? Hmmm...

The thing about Mel is that we only have Brian's interpretation of what happened. Since she left Toronto and abandoned Gus and everyone else, no one has talked to her, so no one really knows why she did what she did. This is only Brian's explanation for her behaviour, which is of course tainted by his own, not so favourable, view of her...

Jennifer's frown - I love how people are taking that so serious. There is nothing bad going on! That frown was just her confusion in that situation when she heard Gus refering to Justin as Papa. She didn't know what to make of that as the boys hadn't explained about Gus and Justin's conversation and the legal guardianship yet. As for her: She loves both Brian and Justin and after everything, even her own involvement, she would be more than happy for them if they could work everything out and get the happiness they deserve. She is not up to anything bad here. Promise!

The story has more than 30 chapters. I said 30+ chapters. There is still a lot to come, no worries :) Justin's feelings will come up and will be covered as will Brian's feelings and there will be lots of stuff still happening. Remember the family portrait? :P

As for everything being good now: Well, you know me. You know how evil I can be... let's just say it won't all be smooth sailing from here on out :/

More will be up soon :)

It's good that Justin is getting some back story from the mess that happened after Luke was born. Mel is really mean if she really is trying to hurt Brian via Gus and Debbie via Jenny. Not that I'm surprised by her behaviour.

Author's Response:

Yes, it's long overdue that he gets some back story.

To be honest, that is only Brian's view of things. Once Melanie abandoned Gus, she didn't talk to any of them again and Brian and Mel have never been best friends, so his opinion of her might be very strongly affected by that ;)

We won't know for sure why she did what she did until we hear from her again...

Nice Thanksgiving Day.  Mel's a true bitch, for what she did.  I think Gus was really too young to really pay much attention to the change seeing as he had Luke to concentrate his attention on.  17 years... hmm... I googled kidnapping, taking a child out of country,  and found 20 yrs to life. Just as long as she serves all 17 yrs, and no time for good behavior, I guess, okay.  And, Michael better have restraining orders when he gets out.  I still wonder why Mel let Lindsay go to Pittsburgh so frequently, without putting a stop to it, knowing how she feels about Brian.  What was Jennifer's frown about?

Author's Response:

Yes, Melanie can just go and join Michael and Lindsay in that special place in hell reserved for all of them :/

As for Gus, we'll see in the Pittsburgh Years how the whole situation with Lindsay kidnapping Luke, the trial and ending up in prison, then followed by Melanie's abandoment will affect him. Poor guy has been through too much for a child his age :(

I actually did my research and the 20 years to life would be for a First Degree kidnapping which involves physical or sexual harm being done to the kidnapping victim. Sentences for a second degree kidnapping (which would be the Lindsay kidnapping) start as low as 5 years. Here is my resource:

  • Prison. Kidnapping convictions can result in lengthy prison sentences, including life sentences in some situations and states. Sentences of 20 years or more are common for first degree or aggravated kidnapping, while minimum sentences of five years or more are common for second degree kidnapping.
  • For example, a charge of first-degree kidnapping, sometimes known as aggravated kidnapping, usually requires that the accused kidnapper either physically harm, sexually assault, or expose the victim to serious risk of harm during the course of the kidnapping. A second-degree kidnapping does not involve sexual or violent assault, or exposing the victim to harm

I am sure this will be different from state to state, but at the end of the day I am neither American, nor a lawyer, so I just relied on some good old web research and went by that ;)

Jennifer's frown was just about her confusion at Gus calling Justin Papa. She noticed that, but didn't quite know what to make of that until the boys explained everything later - she is not up to anything bad here ;)

Thanks for your comment, more will be up soon :D

Sophiesmom I think Jennifer is just a bit worried that Justin is setting himself to be hurt again. If you think about it, things have moved pretty fast here and as a mother, she’s just hoping that he’s thought everything through. Personally if it were me I would have the same concerns....so even though I think what she did was unforgivable, I do understand why she reacted the way she did in terms of their whole arrangement.

Seems Daphne and I share the same feelings about this situation. And after this dinner I’m sure that operation get B/J back together again will be in full swing. Not really looking forward to that. Although I am glad that Thanksgiving was peaceful.

Author's Response:

Yes, you and Daphne seem to be in agreement. You would make great friends ;)

We'll see about getting Brian and Justin back together - I am full of surprises :P

Justin knew Deb would be glad for them all. She was probably more sadden at the holidays because Brian kept everything close but not close enough. Of course she'd be happy. Like she said, took them long enough.

What the hell is up with Jenn? She not happy for the boy who calls her grandma to have a papa too? Is she worried Brian and Justin just might it work somewhere down the line?

I can see Brian and Debbie fighting after Michael was convicted. Blaming Brian for doing that to his bestest dearest friend. Ha!

Mel ans Lindsay were certainly made for each other. To bitches thinking only of themselves. Is 17 years enough for Lindsay? Mel's has a lifetime to live with what she's doing to Gus. Right now Gus doesn't care too much.

Author's Response:

Yes, Debbie was very happy for them and Brian had just been overthinking things once again :/

Jennifer is happy for them - absolutely! She is happy for her son finally getting the family she knew he has always wanted. In that instance she was just confused by Gus calling Justin Papa and what it meant. She didn't know what to make of that new development. As for Brian and Justin: She loves them both and I think she would be very happy if they were able to make it work some day.

We will find out about Brian's and Debbie's fight soon. We'll know then what the reason behind it was ;)

I don't think any punishment is enough for what Lindsay did, but well... we can only hope she'll learn her lesson in those 17 years.
