This could explain why Brian didn't tell Justin, but not justify it. Justin deserved to know and make a choice. Life is made of nuances; he could have been part of a new family and gone after his dream, on a part-time schedule.

Author's Response:

I agree - it's no justification and definitely not an excuse for what Brian did :(

Oh, I’ve just to answer to your answer, because… have I told you that I really love not only your story but also your answers? :-)

“Miracles might still happen and someone might tell him to get off his ass and work through his issues!” While reading this, something came to my mind what would make so much sense… I mean, there were other people in the show I like as for example Blake or Ben (although I never understood his love for Michael) or also Mel (here the same… How could she be in love with such a manipulative bitch? Linds played not only Justin and Brian well but also Mel and Brian  – and I’m real curious about your Mel – whether she’d known about those crazy plans….) but the one person I’ve forgotten is Jennifer. I was so disappointed because I can’t imagine her to just accept Brian telling her “I can’t tell him because of his dream for a career and if you tell him, I’ll just run away….” I liked her more and more during the show, because she has developed further in her views and her behavior. So, doesn’t matter if I’m wrong (it’s your story) and you don’t have to answer and spoil anything, but to me it would make sense. Oh, it’s hard to be patient… Warmest regards!

Author's Response:

Well, I will say this much: You have already mentioned the correct person in your comment :P

Boy, when Justin finds out that a dream was the cause of all this he ain't going to be happy.

Author's Response:

Well, the dream wasn't really the cause ;) It just cemented something that Brian's mind had pretty much already decided on - whether he knew it or not :(

Hi again! I know it would be painful and heartbreaking... But I can't hate Brian, I just would like to shake him and tell him to fight against his demons, to look for help and to stop destroying the second best thing (next to Gus) that happened in his life: and that's Justin!

It's so ironic: "He couldn't let Justin throw away his dream. One day Justin would hate him for it." - And that's exactly what he had done just because he didn’t recognize the real dream! How terrible sad!

I understand all of Brian's thoughts but there's no excusing - he should have let Justin choose for himself. They would have had find a way together and relationships are always hard work - you can never be sure. But I'm sure Justin would have made his way to be a famous artist anyway, next to being a great father. Again, terrible sad!

And the dream... It's obvious where the other problem lays. This are so clearly not only his thoughts from the day before but the demons from his past. Maybe he even witnessed such scenes himself. And it's interesting. He was always afraid to be like his father, now he's also afraid Justin could act like his father and he sees it from his mother's point of view. Again, how terrible sad. He can't see that Justin is not his father, they are not his parents and Justin is also not Brian. As I mentioned before, he had neither trust in Justin or in their relationship and also not in himself. And it shows also how deep his terrible childhood experiences really run and that he has never really handled this issues. Although his decision is very hard to understand, I can understand that for someone as damaged as Brian is, his decision makes sense. Terrible sad! As I said before, he needs help, but there's no one who would even tell him this... Except maybe Ted... Really looking forward to the next chapter! Very well written! Warmest regards!

Author's Response:

Yes, to me it's incredibly sad as well :( As much as I want to hate Brian and want to be angry at him, I can't help but feel slightly sorry for him too. His own family, his own demons and expectations have messed him up so much, that he didn't think that he and Justin could survive this pregnancy, that he couldn't see what was right in front of him: That Justin wanted him and loved him and not a career in New York :(

I am glad you picked up on Brian's past being a big problem here - yes, maybe he has been the small boy at the top of the stairs himself when he was younger. It's sad that he was so scared of him and Justin turning into his parents that he couldn't trust in himself and most of all in Justin not to become them :/

I understand why so many people hate Brian and what he has done, but I have always felt more sad than angry when it comes to him, because here we have a character that has so clearly been messed up by life and just as you said: He never got the help he needed and should have gotten to work through that. Instead people allowed him to built up his walls and hide behind them.

And there lies one of my main problems on the show that I have had with Debbie: She knew Brian was beaten at home, she stitched him up, fed him and helped him, but to me that was no help. She should have reported his parents to the authorities, she should have gotten Brian out of that house as soon as she found out he was being beaten, but she didn't do that! That for me was always a reason not to see her as this loving motherly character... How could she let Brian stay in that house for years, knowing what he was going through?

But who knows? Miracles might still happen and someone might tell him to get off his ass and work through his issues! We'll see...

Thanks for your lovely comment - I really look forward to each and every one of them :)

Brian is playing that scenario out in his head to justify his actions in keeping Justin out of the decision making. I think we all know that is not how it would have played out

Author's Response:

Our subconscious doesn't always work in smart ways...

Maybe we can blame Brian's lapse of judgement on pregnancy hormones? ;)
