This must have been a difficult chapter to write, but you did it so well.

Author's Response:

Thank you <3 The whole story is becoming very challenging to write!

My heart is breaking for him. Thank goodness Cynthia put het foot down. Out of the office for two weeks sounds good.

Justin has to tell him about the phone calls grom Brett and Michael. Justin needs to tell Michael that Michael is the one who needs to be in California. Question is how is he suppose to do that without telling Michael about Brian? There's no way in hell that Brian could handle both radiation and Michael's tears and drama.

Author's Response:

We will find out more about the phone calls in the next couple of chapters. :)

That was a hard one to read and I bet it was worse to write.

One good point: Cynthia knows and will manage what she can with Ted's help.

One question: has Justin been contacted by Brett and declined because he wanted to stay for Brian?

I think Debbie should be able to help as she had to be there when Vic was so sick. It's not the same disease, but the effects might be similar.

Author's Response:

This is definitely a very challenging story to write. It's very technical, and very intense. We'll find out more about the phone calls in upcoming chapters. ;) And Debbie is still in the cards. She did give Justin some advice...we just don't know what it was since we're working from Brian's POV.

This is so hard to read sometimes. To read of Brian's torture his own body is putting him through. But that's what this 'thing' is. It's debilitating. It's humbling and embarrassing. I'd like to ask you to not to put Brian through all this pain, but that's just unfathomable. Cynthia was right to assert herself and tell Brian just how things are going to go the next two weeks. He will come to realize how much better it will be when he comes home after treatment each day, instead of going into the office, as he will already be home when the insanity of his radition starts each day. He is afterall, only on Day 2. If he something needs his attention, or if he needs to sign something, Ted or Cynthia can bring it to the loft.

Michael is starting to worry me. I'm sure Justin is telling him to let it go. That he's busy and can't concentrate on Rage right now. But I'm afraid Mchael isn't going to respect that, and will try to push his friendship card, thus forcing his way into Brian's loft with disastrous results. I can just hear him now, 'Why wasn't I told? I'm your Best Friend' mantra, meanwhile blaming Justin. After your pointing out to me in my last review, Brian has seen Michael. I looked back and found it in Chapter 5. How I was able to forget Michael's ill-spoken words,  “Bet you’re wishing you hadn’t taken that vacation now, huh?”  I don't know.  Maybe Justin should talk to Ted and let him know what's going on with Michael, so that if Michael goes to Kinnetik, Ted can tell him Brian's on business trip, and won't be back for a couple weeks. I don't know... just anything to throw Michael off Brian's path.

Loving this story. You are doing such a great job with it. Thank you.  Looking forward to the next chapter.

XOXO ~ Cathy

Author's Response:

Thank you, Cathy - I really appreciate how you're viewing the story as realistic even though it's a difficult situation. It's very intense and technical, which makes it challenging to write. Brian is making things much harder on himself by refusing to rest until his body is screaming at him. He needs to learn how to listen to the quieter hints before that happens. ;) We'll find out more about the phone calls in the next couple of chapters.

It is so hard to witness Brian's intenal struggles. I was happy to see Brian conceded to Justin driving him to his radiation appointment, as they are only going to get harder.

What had Cynthia's panties in a twist? Was it because Brian was sleeping at noon? Or, does she have another suspicious inkling? Whatever it was, she neeeds to know the truth.

Not that I want a Michael sighting, but does he still have a key to the loft? It would be just like him to breeze into the loft, (at the most inopportune time) like he owned it, when he hasn't seen Brian for a while, especially if he knew Brian was going to Ibiza.

Thanks so much for this update, and can't wait for the next chapter.

XOXO ~ Cathy

Author's Response:

Michael did just see Brian a few days ago (which was several chapters ago by this point, I think LOL) so hopefully that might hold him off for a while. ;) He does know Brian is back from "Ibiza" but still thinks that's where he went.

And Cynthia will start us off in the next chapter. :)

You're absolutely right that Brian hasn't seen anything yet when it comes to how all of this is going to go...

If he lets Justin care for him and Ted and Cynthia take care of the business, once he tells Cynthia what's going on, then he'll be able to concentrate on feeling better and deal with the radiation. Think Brian, think. Feeling better is most important.

Author's Response:

But this is Brian...he doesn't concede easily. ;) Part of his charm...haha. It's hard to want him so badly to take care of himself, though...I get it!

I was waiting for Cynthia's moment of realisation that something was up, he better be honest with her, damnit, Brian lol.

I really do love your style of writing SO much - it just makes me happy, which is weird to say when this is a cancer story, but it's your attention to detail that I admire.

Justin is seriously so badass in this, I love it. You're letting him be the devoted partner he wanted to be in the show lol.

Author's Response:

I guess we'll find out, won't we? ;) I'm glad the attention to detail isn't "too much." Sometimes I get afraid that I'm getting bogged down in some of that, but I like to paint every bit of the picture, so...yeah. And this Justin! Yes. I love him. He's great. I kind of want to write his POV for a bit too. Maybe he'll do an epilogue for us. We'll see how it feels by the end.

Thank you for always leaving such great comments <3

Great chapter.  Hate that Brian is sick, but that is life and we all have to learn to deal with it.  Your writing is amazing.

Author's Response:

Thank you so much, mamab <3 I'm glad you're enjoying what I write! You're right that we all do have to learn to deal with it...it happens sometimes. And sometimes it's really, really bad...but we just have to get through it.

The beginning is so emotional! The end is predictable: Cynthia couldn't stay away too long.

Author's Response:

I made myself tear up writing the beginning. That's usually when I know I've hit on something powerful...when it hits me as I write it. I'm not sure whether "predictable" here is a good thing or a bad thing. ;) Cynthia already suspects something serious is going on, she's just not sure what it is.

Wow, powerful chapter written so well.  Could feel the pain that Brian was experiencing both physical and emotional.  You write the complex character that Brian is so perfectly.

Thank you so much! <3 It makes me happy to hear I've accomplished what I was going for!

I fucking love this man so much, and I hate how Jack and Joan broke him emotionally as a child. He's spent so long being dependent on himself, that he feels he's a burden to anyone when he needs them most. It really shows what sort of shitty childhood he had if that's his mentality, you know?

I hope he ends up telling Cynthia. In my head, I can see her being crushed, but knowing just how to "deal with him", you know?

I do love how you have him recognising that he loves Justin and that he DOES want a future with him, it's just so sad that he can't yet verbalise it.

But I am glad that Justin is there taking care of him and just being there for him when he needs it most.

Author's Response:

As much as I wish they'd explored more of his childhood in the series, the fact that they didn't gives us more room to explore it in fanfic, I suppose. I think he knew what he wanted in the series, from much earlier on than we're "told." But because we can't "see" his thoughts on TV like we can in a story like this, we weren't privy to it. That's another thing I get to play with here.

Justin knows how to read him...he knows what to do. He's read the Kinney Operating Manual, cover to cover. ;)

I love that you're loving the story.

Thank you so much for this update. Your writing is so descriptive...  glasses clinked against one another on the shelf in the kitchen, the refrigerator opened and closed, and plastic crackled as Justin unscrewed the lid on a bottle... Amazing!

Thank goodness Justin was in the loft when Brian got home. Brian needs to let those thoughts and feelings of control and vulnerability, out of his system, and quit berating himself for needing the caring comfort and love from the few people that are aware of his circumstances. And quit saying, "I'm Fine"!

Poor Brian... scared of the feelings of love. Of rejection. Boy, his parents needed to be arrested and have the key thrown away for their abusive upbringing of him.

Aprepitant is a drug that helps control nausea during radiation treatments. Take it one hour before your radiation treatment. (my grandmother and mother have both had breast cancer) which is why I'm aware of foods and medications during radiation. So far at 62, I'm happy to say I seem to have broken that tradition.

Looking forward to your continuation of this wonderful story.

XOXO ~ Cathy

Author's Response:

This is Brian Kinney we're talking about...nothing is ever easy when it comes to feelings. ;)

I owe the attention to sensory detail to my high school creative writing teacher...I wanted to work a lot of that in here because we are working from Brian's POV in 3rd person limited, and if he has his eyes closed, his focus will be more on what he's hearing going on.

Jack and Joan are two of my least favorite characters, for sure. Pretty sure they're only topped by Chris Hobbs.

I'm sorry to hear of your mother and grandmother, but I'm glad that you seem to have broken the tradition so far. The same is true for me and I hope that continues.

Thanks for reading and always taking the time to comment!

Oh my! Another heartbreaking chapter. You can tell Justin is treading a fine line while trying hard not to 'mother' Brian. And Brian is doing the same with trying not to push Justin away becuase it's so hard for him to accept help from anyone.

I hope Brian will soon realize that Justin truly does love him.

Looking forward to more!

I really like the way Justin stands up to Brian about eating before going in for his treatment but backs down on going with him, showing he understands that Brian would feel smothered if he went with him.

And I love that you used the scene between Brian and Ted at Kinnetik. That is one of my favorite scenes! Ted wasn't acting as just an employee but as a true friend who was concerned.

Wonderful chapter!

*Hugs*

Deb

Author's Response:

It's one of my favorites as well, so I had to work it in there! As Michael would say, Justin has read the Kinney Operating Manual. ;) Glad you're still loving it! Hope you enjoy Ch. 7 just as much.

SIGH, I love reading this, it's like how the show SHOULD have written this storyline. I still love that Brian told Ted, I think Brian likes him a lot more than he'd ever let on.

Can't wait for more.

Author's Response:

Lucky for you, you've still got one more before you're caught up to me. ;) I'm glad that I'm still doing it justice!

Hard lessons finally forced upon himself to learn. Justin being there will a big help. Brian just has to face it. Like justin said needing help doesn't make him weak

. It only makes him human.

Author's Response:

Exactly. This is a tough situation for someone with a personality and life philosophy like Brian's.

Poor guys: Brian for being stubborn and needing to hide; Justin for wanting to help and be there for Brian. And it's the first day...

Author's Response:

Yep...it's the first day. This is very difficult for someone who likes to be in control and doesn't like to show weakness or vulnerability.

Thank you so much for this awesome update. The scene between Brian and Ted was beautifully done. You know how they always say a book is so much better than a movie? Because you can hear a persons thoughts. Which I commend you for doing just that.

Did you know that high-protein shakes/fruit shakes with GINGER twice a day is great way to reduce nausea during treatment? Great breakfast idea. Also, soups/stews made with an abundance of GARLIC is also good to use too. (just giving Justin some ideas).

XOXO ~ Cathy

Author's Response:

Ah, thank you for the ideas ;) I really like adding the thoughts behind what we saw to scenes in  the show. I enjoy reading it as well as writing it. I'm glad you feel I did it well! One of my favorite scenes.

Great chapter. I really liked that he thought of Justin and Gus instead of thoughts of Vic.

I adored that scene between him and Ted. You did it justice.

Me too. I really enjoy adding Brian’s introspection to my favorite scenes in the series. Glad you liked it as well!

Tough situation as Brian doesn't want to be mothered and Justin can't help it, he has to tell Brian to follow the rules that were given. Even if Justin is in class, I don't see how he could not think about Brian and how he could focus on the subjects he has to learn.

Author's Response:

And the tough situation is about to get a whole lot more complicated...

I'm glad Brian told Debbie, even if he didn't intend to. He needed that cuddle from her. But my god, I wish that man would stop thinking so much and just enjoy Justin being there and looking after him. But this is Brian we're talking about lol. Loved this chapter, as always.

Author's Response:

Yes, this is Brian we're talking about. ;) And also me writing...so, me + Brian = angst. LOL I enjoyed getting to play up the relationship between Brian and Debbie here. I'm thinking that's something I'd like to explore in some one-shots after I finish this series.

Very good update. Quite the introspective thoughts Brian was having. I sure hope Deb doesn't say anything to anyone else. She owes Brian that much. Ben, curious about what he thinks is going on. Will he try to talk to Brian, or will he give him the choice to speak when he wanted to. Justin... Will he go to California? If he stays, it won't be about some misguided sense of responsible, like Brian might think. It will be because he plain and simply loves him. Which Justin needs to persuade Brian the thruth of.

Thanks for this update again. Hugs, Cathy

Author's Response:

Me writing Brian almost always equals "all the thoughts." ;)
