Not a great reaction from Brian but I really believe he felt blindsided by what Justin said. I'm sure he was all geared up to try and say the right thing to soothe Justin's fears and then WHOA hold up it's me and Gus he's talking about! Pretty powerful stuff for both of them to cope with. Brian just took a page out of his Sunshine's book - if in doubt walk on out :-( Tough road ahead for our boys I'm thinking. This is such a good story and as someone living with a young son who suffers from depression and anxiety, I really can relate to all you have written so far, and appreciate the compassion you are showing.

Thank you for saying I'm treating these subjects with compassion. I work in the mental health field both as a clinician and as an educator working to reduce stigma around mental illness and seeking treatment so one of my hopes is that this fic serves to increase understanding about these illnesses.

Now, not only does he have to deal with Justin being treated in the hospital for his depression and PTSD he has to keep the family in the dark and at bay.
He walked out? When the doctor suggested talking to Brian would be helpful he fucking walked out on him! Yeah he earned his asshole nickname right then and there. He damn we'll better go find himself someone for him to talk to if that's his reaction to Justin's honesty.

I imagine Brian won't be happy to hear about Justin's violent thoughts, but he might understand that Justin can't do anything more than what he is doing at the hospital. Mel and Lindsay might become drastic and forbid him any contact with Gus.Then, the sh*t is going to hit the fan and everybody will know.

Was Justin allowing or using Brian, albeit subconsciously, to replace Craig and his functions as a father? Interesting.
I liked that Brian kept their first visit light. Justin catching him being dorky was cute.

Woah! It's kinda like when you feel so good you feel like a balloon, but then all the air goes out and you feel empty. Going to the hospital has got to be better than living like this.

I understand Justin feeling embarrassed by being in the psych ward, but to keep IIT from his mother,?
It seems Justin told the doctor more than he told Brian. Brian needs to remember that even feeling lost as to help Justin, getting him to the hospital was the best way to help at the time.

He will eventually tell Jen - he just needs some time to understand if for himself. Also, he doesn't want to worry her.
The doctor was asking much more specific questions. But yes, Brian just wants what's best for Justin and he did the right thing in going to the hospital.

I hope 3 days will be enough, though I don't think it will be. It seems to be too deep to heal this quick. Jennifer will be out of her mind and angry towards Brian when she will find out.

A 72 hour hold is what folks are usually held on. The criteria for release are just that they are no longer a risk - insurance won't pay for in-patient treatment much beyond that. True recovery takes much longer but treatment is usually outside the hospital.
