So glad to see a new part of this amazing saga!
It's a great idea to try explaining what might have happened during Brian's childhood.
Claire was such a nasty kid: it's one thing to ignore someone, but hurting her brother was just awful, with the obvious result: Brian wailing and disturbing the "peace" at home.
At least, Joan loved him at first.

Welcome back. Hope the break was good for you. What a wonderful first chapter. It is the beginning of the Kinney Operating Manual !! Fantastic writing as always and you know these stories make me so happy. Will read more later as I am going out for the 4th. Hope you have a nice 4th, also.
