QaF devotee and avid fanfiction reader. I'm an old broad who came late to the table where fanfiction was concerned. I didn't even know it existed until about five years ago. When I found it, a whole new world was laid out before me!
The creativity and ingenuity of the writers I discovered inspired my own creative juices and I began posting my first fanfiction story, Alterations, in April of 2012. It's been a marvelous exploration of my own psyche, pulling out my own fears and foibles and foisting them upon my characters. For myself, at least, the best fiction often comes from the most painful of realities.

I do so love this story. You've got a strong Justin, a less emotionally stunted Brian, and Lindsay and Michael we love to hate! What's not to love! LOL.
But, not to get all legally technical or anything - and yes, I know it's fanfiction land, but save Justin's money!!! Unless he was a party to the contract signed between Brandon and Sap, they can't hold him responsible for anything. That's all on Sap and Brandon. (Love it that they both can get shafted. haha)

RONIIIIIII OMG! I'm so honored that you are enjoying this! Thank you so much for reading! I love writing Justin as a strong lead, equal to Brian in every way but still vulnerable enough to need emotional support at times. I tend to write Brian that way as well- with heart and intelligence as opposed to just one or the other. I've always enjoyed their dynamic so this is my chance to take certain elements of their relationship and build a story around it. It allows me to never have to write or box the same 'type' of Brian and Justin dynamic.
Brandon and Gary's deal about Justin is a classic case of "What he doesn't know won't hurt him." Neither of them ever thought that Justin had goals and dreams outside of the Dance Troupe (Gary) or building a permanent relationship with him (Brandon). In their minds, Justin has nothing outside of them to look forward to. Neither know anything about Justin beyond his life as a dancer. They are wrong, of course, but it won't stop them from pulling out all the stops to keep Justin where they feel he belongs.
In the meantime, Justin has a bit of an issue all on his own that he will have to address. He is fiercely independent and has been that way for more years than he can remember. It will be interesting to see if he'll allow those around him to help him or if he is still willing to suffer in silence and let Gary and Brandon win at his expense physically or financially.

Thanks, Roni - I always thought that Brian would be more likely to open up when he wouldn't have to 'face' the consequences of revealing his feelings. Hence, the letters and the way they let him be himself wihtout feeling the expectations of the person listening to him. It would give him more freedom. First off - full disclosure: I really, really don't like Michael... LOL
Now, I was looking through some of the other comments and I just have to (ohgodIcan'tbelieveI'msayingthis) defend Michael a little bit. Yes, he's acting like a baby/being selfish/totally self-absorbed - because that's who he is, but he's also acting like someone who really has no idea how to parent. He wants to be the love of his child's life and he isn't and it hurts and that gets confused with old jealousies. I'm with Justin - give him time (and maybe some of those parenting classes the women are taking).
He really has NO experience with girls, raising them or dealing with them, and girls are very different than boys.
I don't like how Michael has run off, obviously, but somehow I think the girls will put him in his place a bit more. I hope so.

I know I'm being really harsh. Justin is actually on Michaels side. Michael is just mad. He wants to be a good dad, but it's hard for him to talk to Justin. When he gets back home Justin is going to take him in hand and help him. Justin lets it slide but is waiting for Michael to come to him.

Believe me (kind of a continuation of my earlier comment) I don't think you are being harsh. I actually think you are spot on in how you describe Michael's head-space.

I think that Michael was always a character that you had to hit with a brick then he came out of it. I guess harsh is bad more like i am putting alot of emotion on him. He wants to be everything to JR but when everything he is doing is going wrong he can't just say okay Justin help me. Ben hasn't said to him let me help he is constantly lecturing. Brian who would usually help can't because he need to be there for Gus. Michael is in a spin right now. Justin tries to tell everyone to let him be and he will come around. I alway think of the scene when Captain Astro dies Justin is rubbing his back and feels bad for him.
It doesn't help that Mel and Lindsay had a child with him but they never really were great friends with him. Mel wanted a baby, but really didn't want the father. Lindsay was just along for the ride. I think that no one in the story see that Michael wasn't told things when they happened like you move with my kid and tell me months later. That is wrong and the Dr they are seeing tells them.
Thank you for reading and it's been a neat experience to have people really get in to it with me.
I chose this story as it is a "what if" that continues the story of Brian and Justin after Season 5. Starlight is an author that pulls you into a story by the third paragraph and takes you on a wild ride. There's angst, humor and drama that has you cheering and yelling in disgust in the same chapter. She has this writing style that keeps you wanting more every chapter she writes - mamaduck

Oh, lord... what can I say? This is so heartwrenchingly on point, so poetically crafted, so sadly happy.
"That's the one thing they never tell you, how unnerving it can be to have everything you want. How the fear of losing it is oftentimes worse than the ache of never having it at all."
Those few lines sum up the fears of all humans, that desperation that drives us to hold on too tightly or let go too quickly. That's the kind of pain that is so familiar and so foreign to Brian at the same time, and you've captured it so very well.
