If I remember well, something happened to Lily in New Orleans (which is a city with a rich and dark history. Many believe that the city is among the most haunted in the United States).

The visit to Eric's parents might have been odd if something happened again with Lily while she was with them.

Maybe the visit to NO started or revealed something. Maybe the parents would want to act on this while Brian was away from Eric and Lily.

A little drama to put some pressure?

That was my theory... will see in the future if it's valid or not.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

It's a delight to read a new chapter as the previous ended with a little angst.

Can't wait to read more

Please, could you let us know if you will post more chapters to this amazing story?

It's been a long time.

Hope you are doing well.

Author's Response:

I would like to start writing the new chapter soon but have two jobs and work 65- 70 hours a week. I should have a little more time in October since I will only be working 58 or so on my most loaded weeks. I haven't given up on this story yet! I will be posting to Ao3 first so definitely look for it there. :) Feel free to email me for any updates or if you want to kick my ass into gear. I could certainly use it. Thank you for checking in!

Thank you so much for the update!!!

It's a great chapter, with a big surprise at the end, some angst in the beginning and a new dynamic between father and son.

Can't wait to see how the mother will react to Brian.

Great chapter, full of emotions! I was so happy to see the update.

Eric's mother is really mean, but I guess it must be hard on her to have Brian invading her home, and not being discreet.

Lily is going to have so many things to tell when she will be back home.

Author's Response:

I'm so glad you enjoyed it, Sno!

You're right on Eric's mom, at least when it comes to her feelings regarding her son being gay. I think it's hard for Eric, since he respected her so much. But you're also right on it being hard on her, seeing it in her home. And maybe a very tiny part of her is justified in feeling disrespected. Of course, she could have handled it a lot better.

Yes, she will! And once she gets that check, she's going to take her man out on the town. ;)

Thank you for reading and reviewing!

That was an amazing chapter!!! Long, dense, funny and yet with some sadness.

The scene with Brian on the hammock and the end... I feel so sad for Justin, even if it's his decision regarding Malcom. I just hope Malcom will remain in Justin's future, once the baby is born. As for the memory of Britin with the stars in the sky, it was gut wrenching.

So happy Hunter was here to cheer Molly up.

The whole Haloween part was so detailed, I could almost "see" and "feel" it.

Thank you for this long update!

What a news!!! He is taking it pretty nicely. Maybe he will react different after a few days, when all impacts will have been thought.

Thank you for the update!

Thank you for this update!

Lily is very intense for a little girl and can be queening out like her daddy. Poor Duncan having to "fight" for the first place in her heart. He is so attentive and charming.

Cynthia and Justin left me with a bittersweet feeling as they seem not fully happy with their life.

So happy to see this huge update! After seeing updates on LAX PIT, I was wondering if you will work on this one. Thank you for the come-back. I'll read this chapter later on as I want to read it in one shot, then I'll leave another comment.

Author's Response:

I'm glad you are still here! I put up a second update as well, so when you do get to reading it, there are 25k words waiting for you :) Thanks for reading and reviewing!

Smoldering by Tagsit Rated: M star [Reviews - 149]
Summary: Past Featured Story

Smoldering Banner.png

Justin has grown up in a very different household than seen in canon. He is living on the streets when he is found by the Liberty Diner gang and is rescued - malnourished, exhausted and ill - and taken home by Brian. Can Justin be brought out of this hell he's been resigned to by his hateful father? Can Brian find the one thing that will make Justin whole again?

This story is based on a prior fic - 'Smolder' - by LovelessSouls.  All credit for the haunting story premise goes to the original author, as well as my thanks for letting me repost the first two chapters of that story.

Very hard and intriguing beginning. I guess we are headed to a dark back story for the blond "kid".

Brian's altruistic side showing up is always interesting. How Justin will react to that once the door is closed?

Very impatient to read the next part.

69th comment: will it be a good omen for the days to come?

Author's Response:

69th comment is a REALLY good omen. Thank you for reading and for leaving all these great comments. TAG

Justin sleeping on the cushions like a dog is gut wrenching as what he thinks of himself. Brian will have a hard time to build any kind of relationship with this wild and wounded boy.

Mickey is as rude as usual. Glad that Brian has kicked him.

The drawing, the clothes and the money are too painful to find for Brian.

What kind of dad is Justin's?

Author's Response:

The absolute WORST kind . . . TAG

Gus and Justin are just great together. As for Emmett and Ted, they can be as damaging as Mikey.

Trying to get Justin react to ad job is genius: it should allow him to express himself a little and to be at ease.

It might be the only way to make him feel worthy.

Author's Response:

Exactly Brian's theory too! TAG

I think we are getting close to what kind of abusive father Craig is and I guess he's / was so much worse than Jack.

It's awful what people can do in the name of religious beliefs towards anybody, but when it's in the family's core, it's worse because of the trust that is repeatedly destroyed, until there is no more.

Gus is the vector that could go through Justin, because he's a kid and doesn't mean to do wrong on purpose.

The whole situation is difficult for Brian because he wants to help and doesn't know how to do it. The fact that Justin doesn't seem attracted to him must also be hard (no pun intended for once, my mind is not at all focused on that in this story) on him; he really isn't used to that.

I don't think the characters are OOC or too OOC; Brian has shown in the series that he can restrain himself (beginning of S2) and be there for Justin. In your story, he feels that Justin needs to be rescued and not only from the cold and malnutrition. He knows Justin is troubled (nightmares, empty look, fear ...).

I hope that Mickey didn't say anything that might have pushed Justin over the cliff. Sure, Brian's tricking and Deb's remarks might have been sufficient, but maybe not.

Tough situation, but at least, Justin decided to stay.

He could be a real asset to Kinnetic and could be a real partner to Brian, once the past is known and understood.

Better be faceless than faithless in this fandom. As I'm not a therapist, I'm not offended at all and I deeply believe in B&J!

I like the fact that they will talk at a specific time. So, no surprises and no escape. Justin also knows that he could stay at least a week.

I really don't know what to say after reading this difficult chapter.

I still hope that monsters like this don't exist, but I guess I'm all wrong. I also hope that Justin will be able to talk about that, otherwise, he will be trapped forever in his nightmares. Brian wants to help, but he might get hurt in the process. Tough choice.

And the  I thought the "sexual" abuse was worse than what Brian had from his father; but the food abuse is worse (for me); how can a father act like this; it's one of the basic functions a parent signs for when he has a child.

As for the lynch mob, I would vote for public punishment: demand him to whack off in front of somebody he cares for or in the backroom of Babylon.

Author's Response:

That's exactly how I felt when I was researching and writing this - the emotional abuse caused by controlling a person's basic needs was very scary. Glad that comes through in my writing. I'm all for that lynch mob, though. TAG
