I am...

… approaching my late 30s... unbelievable...

… from Germany; a Village near Würzburg/Bavaria.

… a civil servant.

… interested in environmental issues, wildlife, history, science and, to someone extend, every day politics.

I own several Aquariums and love dogs - my little Girl died last year in the age of 15 years.

I'm a diligent reader of english fanfiction. I can read and understand the language, but my writing is somewhat limited in words and phrases. So I will probably rarely make a comment, but I appreciate every author who uses his time and his talent to entertain me and everyone else with his stories. Especially since I myself write fanfiction in my native language German and know what great efforts are involved.

I'm a special some would say odd kind of fan, because it happens to me that I see clips or pictures of a nice looking man in a new series or movie and for months and years I read fanfiction to that particular fandom before I can decide to look at the moving pictures... happened to me with Torchwood... Queer as Folk... and lately White Collar

As for Qaf, Brian, Justin and the gang: I own the whole series on DVD... but until now I've never seen it; expect some key episodes - but for years I have been reading fanfiction in German and English... in fact so many that I now believe I know these boys (and girls…) really very well - thanks to the dedication of the many talented authors out there.

This results in a distinct dislike of one Michael C. Novotny... I really really like a good Anti-Michael!

I love Emmett. He is such a cool chap, and I'm sure in the end he caught his quarterback and they lived happily ever after... same as Brian and Justin - I'm absolutely sure of that one!

The other QaF-pairings are an issue that's somewhat difficult... I cheer for Brian & Justin and Emmett & Drew, even Ted & Blake - but the others? Well let's say there are situations in which I don't understand why they hold on to their relationships...

And now... back to reading fascinating new stories of our favorite boys and girls...

and how does Brian put it: Later!

Hello there,

Have to deliver a fast review to this chapter… bevor you post the new one -,-

Aaaah yeah… how predictable; Michael's ingenuity strikes again. He didn’t even bother to check what the nickname meant with which he was struck. Well, this is another lesson Mikey will never learn: only because Brian says something 'sounds cool' doesn’t necessarily mean it is in fact cool.

And really!? What the heck is Nancy's Problem? She lived her whole life in a privileged manner. There was always enough of everything; food, cloth, shelter, money… highly likely even staff to clean after her pompous ass – she doesn’t had to lift a finger to live the comfortable idle life of the well-heeled and it still isn’t enough??

There was never a need for her to work and I'm sure that is the crucial source of the problem. She obviously was bored and had to fill her time with something. And because it wasn't filed with earning a living or simply doing house chores, she had way too much time to weave intrigues, to be conniving and poisonous. If this Tarantula had had to work at one point in her life for the money she spent and hoarded, she would see the world with a completely different view.

It is scary, but this woman seems to be totally morally corrupted to the last fiber of her existence. She does not seem to have a problem with her daughter cheating, stealing and blackmailing the people around her. On the contrary! She is recognizably proud of a criminal. This raises the question of how far Nancy herself is stuck in illegal activities, because she shows signs of a profuse criminal energy and we all know she has molded Lindsay to her image. And Lindsay learned way too well.

I had a nasty grin on my face when Nancy and Lindsay were confronted with the Kinney clan. It is really funny that the sophisticated and glamorous grandmamma and the so very highly knowledgeable and experienced art connoisseur don't speak French. Unfortunately, those two creatures are as dense as the Grassi/DeVores and don't want to see that they are history. I'm looking forward to the time when Nancy will try to pull rank in her WASP-community only to be ostracized by her 'very good friends'. Or when Lindsay recognizes that Sidney has way more pull in the art-community than she ever had and will ever have. The gall of this abominable toad to think Sidney's house is going back to her efforts; I'm sure the Bloom's had their house way before Sidney even knew Lindsay.

Nancy and Lindsay are like two peas in a pod and Ron should really, really get rid of them as fast as he can. He still has Lynette, the disappointment in Nancy's book (maaan, this woman is definitely not a jot better than Joan or Debbie in the mothering department. Disgusting!). In my opinion Nancy sees her older daughter as useless because she can't (and won't) satisfy her mother's greed. She can't have children, so there's no opportunity to marry her of to an upper class man that wants to have a breeding mare and therefore pays Nancy for bearing her and advance her social standing. We have a pointer to that as Nancy instantly starts scheming as Ron mentioned the 'single billionaire'. Madam Pimpress wanted to immediately marry Lindsay of to a completely stranger because there laid a very distant smell of money in the air. I think Lynette's only flaw is that she has decency and dignity and works for her keep. That she married a man she loved is one very big positive to. She has a good heart, is capable of love and compassion and that raised her way above her mother and sister… her willingness to raise Lindsay's baby only proofs my point.

Well, I have a feeling that it will be quite full on the side of the defense attorneys when Lindsay and Nancy will join the ranks of the defendants. Child trafficking for adoption is a serious charge – I haven't done much research only a cursory look at Google but I have read that there is the possibility of imprisonment up to 14 years and a fine. Marvelous future prospects for the grandmamma and the best horsey in her stable… (woe… am I nasty but I like it!)

Ok, enough raved... great chapter as ever

See you soon!

Hello MissMerlot and Company,

Congratulations to you for finishing a real good story. I was very entertained as I followed Brian’s Rollercoaster ride to hell and heaven.

At the end there are two conclusions for me:

First: Deb finally got it and realized that this was the unavoidable end to the matter and that it was her fault and no one else’s. She will be utterly alone in her future live, but there is still a chance that it will be a good one, away from her leech of a son and his selfish demands.

Second: Michael on the other hand still isn’t back to reality. He still thinks he can scheme and manipulate his surroundings – as seen in the Prison-Scene as he tried to use Brian’s last name and therefore to maintain a sliver of presence in Brian’s live. Utterly cowed he seems not and I can totally see him start planning his revenge when he is over the initial shock of his 5 year sentence… and I would have so liked to see him hit rock bottom and knowing it… but well, this could point to an eventual sequel to this story?

I am still amazed how much writing you manage to do. Your output is unbelievable and to maintain the constant great quality is another point I can’t wrap my head around… My own mind bursts with ideas but I don’t seem to be able to put it into words anymore…

Anyway, thank you for sharing your work

Greetings

Katharina

Hello writers,

Lord in heaven! How can you be as blockheaded as Michael? If he had only focused a little fraction of this persistence on getting his live on the right track he could have made it and could have the good live he so desperately wants.

Okay… do I get this right? Michael started his campaign of second hand Child abuse because Deb punished him for hitting Brian? Not because she wrote in the diary he stole, she wished he would be like him?

Understand me right, I don’t think hitting your Child is adequate, but first: these were other times and the approach of parenting was way less over cautious and fussy in every aspect of life - even punishments. Robbi's take on help for Brian - teaching him how to hit back - is a testament to that. And second: Michael definitely deserved it!

It is a shame that Deb has such a split personality. If she had only stuck to the few good approaches she has had and had built on them, maybe this whole mess wouldn’t have happened. But well, we all know that she has in essence much of the same entitlement issues as Michael and kids learn by imitating.

It's really refreshing that Ben is finally a little less Zen and shows Deb how much she has hurt him personally and that he is firmly on Brian's side. Even a well-balanced man like Ben has his breaking point. Seeing first hand, how Deb still torments Brian without the slightest remorse and with the goal of getting him to cave, is clearly his.

Deb can only be thankful that this scene happened before Ben knew the complete horrific truth about how Michael has willingly and with callous disregard of his health (and with her obvious  backing) endangered him. I really think Ben would have ended her if he knew then…

You know, I have no illusions about the world of lawyers, attorney, judges and so on… I'm aware that they have relationships amongst themselves – if you meet every other day you get to know one another whether you want it or not. And if you are one of the people who are liked… well… it will have benefits.

Clients who made themselves already unpopular with the first few words they direct to their attorney have to reckon with the fact that he will not really work with full heart and soul. If those attorneys also like the prosecutor and sympathize with the victim/plaintiff... well, you will be good and truly screwed. And I think Deb and Michael have three attorney working against them, a dedicated doctor, one or two judges, bailiffs, guards, police officers... you get my drift...

I'm glad that Brian on the surface was his usual snarky self and stayed strong... and I hope he will stay so for the whole excruciating remainder of the trial.

So, and now I'm going back to waiting

Greetings

Hi there,

I have to say, my thoughts where doing circles in the last days because I tried to imagine a way, how you would maybe continue the demise of Deb and Michael... but I have to be patient, because you have given our favorite guys a break from all this madness.

I'm pleased that there appears to be a competent Psychologist/Psychiatrist who will help Brian to overcome his past. Furthermore Dr. Morris seems to be well respected enough in the judiciary world to destroy Michaels machinations about getting of scot free because a faked mental disease.

It will be interesting to see what this highly qualified Doctor will say about the reasons why the Grassi/DeVores have willingly and with open eyes caused so much damage to Brian. I really hope he will not attest a real psycho-problem for them because they definitely knew what they were doing and also knew that it was dead wrong.

Will Arthur call more witnesses? Because one thought I had repeatedly was: what would happen if an officer in full uniform would possibly make a statement about Debs character? What would it look like if Lt. Charles Michael Novotny jnr. tells the court that she used his father for her machinations? Or when he tells them, that he believes she would have eventually tried to obtain parts from his father's estate by naming him as Michael's father. (Maybe Deb selected Charles Michael sen. because the Novotnys are rich?)

Oh by the way, is Charles jnr. in the Army? Because if he is, why is he only Lieutenant? He must be older than Michael which means he is around 40 to 45 and therefore he would most likely be a Major possibly even a Lt-Colonel.

(So yes, I will admit it: I'm a nerd when it comes to researching facts for my own stories - amongst other things the command structure of the US military branches as well... some years ago... wrote NCIS/JAG fanfics in German...)

Also, I'm really curious who Lindsay's baby's father is and how he'll behave when she contacts him. He seems to be a wealthy man, if she believes she can extort money from him. But I have a feeling that this will bite Lindsay and Nancy in the flat behinds...

One positive note at the end: Mel seems to get a new love interest - very good, time to stop hiding behind Gus...

See you soon...

Hello Ladies,

hm ... I'm tempted to reconsider my opinion of who I hate more, Debbie or Michael. I think she actually managed to leave Michael and even Joan behind in my ranking of the worst characters in Brian's live - not really a desirable result...

How is it possible that Deb surprised me with an additional unimaginable low? I had hoped she would actually have a little spark of decency left when it seemed she was trying to give Brian back some of his money, but apparently it was all a hoax.

While Michael is just simply stupid, malicious and calculating, Deb heaves the deceitfulness and treacherousness to a whole new level. She is cruel in the truest and most sinister sense of the word, but sadly knew how to hide it very well for years. It is the worst betrayal when a mother - and as such she wants to be seen in regards of Brian - views the value of her child only in how much money she can siphon off of him or her.

Does she really think anyone would still believe that she loves Brian? If so, she is clearly insane, she clearly proved that in the witness stand. It's really pathetic when you cannot even stick to your own shady plans, when you get provoked and your real motivations are exposed. A weakness she fortunately shares with her biological son - to the benefit of the prosecution.

The really bad thing about the whole mess is that Brian is constantly suffering. Every time we think he has a chance for some quiet time and peace of mind, the Grassi/DeVores crawl out of their respective hole and destroy it. I hope Brian finds someone who makes it clear to him that none of what Debbie and Michael say is relevant and even less true.

Well, we will see…

Greetings

Katharina

Hallo Girls,

I know ... long radio silence - and no real excuse, except that it was hot, really really hot here in the last weeks - up to 40°C - and therefore everyone had little desire to do anything…

Well, let's just say I'm still reading and will keep reading. Now I will leave a brief comment without ranting and long drawn analysis of the twisted characters around Brian. We have already been there plenty of times.

The developments of the last chapters are really everything I had hoped for:

Michael is on his way to his very own personal hell and he still thinks he will come out of this mess as a free man – we will happily be onlookers when his world crashes and burns around him. I hope you writers will utterly destroy him, disgusting excuse of a human being that he is.

Deb… I don’t know what I should think about her. On one hand she is almost as depraved as her son. On the other there are some little blips of the Debbie we all hope for. Anyway she definitely has to pay for her misdeeds - there really are plenty of those.

Joan got what she wished: the devil saved her from the trial... but nothing is for free, as we all know. I hope Brian and Claire don't have to care about her anymore, but knowing Brian he will see it as his obligation to pay for her care anyway...

I look forward to the destruction of every last little bit of reputation and clout Lindsay and Nancy think they have - their appearance in court will only be the beginning.

Outside of the courtroom is just as great even if it is a little less thrilling. The growth of the Kinney-Clan is going forward. They add new People to the fold who actually fit their group and aid positive progress; people who aren't only there because they somehow always were, even if they only ever halted any possible development. The characters of the People around Brian and Justin evolve and the couples develop healthy relationships without unwanted interference of people who are only looking for their personal advantage and profit...

I'm really curious what the trial will bring to light. What twisted schemes have they plotted? What ghastly things has Brian really suffered because of them and what will the court eventually decide?

I'm looking forward to the next chapters.

Greetings from Germany

Katharina

Hello Ladies,

I'm about to be on schedule! Yeah to me!

Well now, Justin and Brian enjoy their vacation start... numerous times. It's great that they can have this time away from the mess at home so they can be relaxed and recuperated when everything comes unavoidably to the boiling point and to the final conclusion.

I'm fully with Ben on the terms of Mel getting restraining orders for Lindsay. As minuscule her interest is in them, as tremendous is her advantage seeking. She will only try to use the kids as long as she hast access to Gus and Jenny.

It's is great that Ben will come back to Pittsburgh, it will be good for Jenny and he simply belongs to the new Kinney-Clan.

The Grassi/Devore's ogling Drew Boyd is a little disturbing even if I can understand it, especially since it happened in the privacy of your own living room… and to be honest: who doesn't ogle at certain celebrities? May they be sport stars, singers, actors or something completely different…

What I really can't understand is Michael – as always. Again I'm asking me what the heck this idiot has between his ears, you know, there where the gray matter should actually be. Riley told him he was straight and even if he weren’t, it is so definitely not Michael's business if he is Drew's love-interest or not. Calling the press about it was a singularly stupid move. Michael has clearly bitten of more than he can chew: now he has not only Drew Boyd against him but also the Ironmen and Leo Brown (who seems to be a supporting boss in this fic).

The bottom line is that subsequently Emmett and Del will only be further pissed and so will the Kinney clan. Michael's position within his overall already bad situation will only be further weakened - ergo: he created a no-win-situation out of a jealous whim with all the following unpleasant consequences for himself and his environment (read: Deb).

Now I'm back to waiting…

Greetings

Katharina

56.   Robbi is collecting even more evidence of Nancy's crassly unequal treatment of her daughters and it shows once more her money-grabbing personality. Her plan to force Lynette into taking care of her in her old age has a very distinctive and clear to see monetary reason: Lindsay's net worth is exactly nil! If Nancy doesn't find a wealthy simpleton to marry her of to, there is no chance in hell for her ever having enough money to support her own spending habit, let alone her mother's. Nancy might like Lindsay more but she knows how unreliable and unself-sufficient her favorite is - especially in financial terms. Lynette on the other hand is very well of, she has inherited the estate and fortune of her late husband and she also works for additional money too. Nancy has stated she would divorce Ron and there stands to reason that there will be no or only a very small settlement. So in Nancy devious mind she will have Lynette – Ron's 'favorite' daughter – step into his role of provider because every financial contribution her then ex-husband will gif her will subsequently benefit Nancy as well. But this plan would only pan out if Lynette has no one in her life. So Nancy will do her absolute worst to sabotage every relationship with a man – Frederick or any other – and of course every possible child in order to keep Lynette lonely and therefor focused on her mother. Anyway, in my opinion Lynette's 'duty as Nancy's daughter' is just as non-existent as Claire's to Mrs Kinney. There will be snow in hell bevor Lynette will finance Nancy's keep and the restraining orders are the first step to exactly that. I'm really want to see the reaction of when the other restraining orders will be served – it will be very satisfying because those will make settling in Pittsburgh so much harder seeing that the new Kinney-Clan is spread out over the City...

Michael 'staggering and misplaced arrogance' is appalling. What does he think an attorney is doing all day long? Does he seriously think he is he only focus of her? She is court appointed attorney, so he doesn't even pay her for her services how can he direct such foolish demands at her and belief she would abide to them? He doesn't do himself a favor with his histrionics and it seems like his attorney has an very distinct inkling that he is faking his 'illness' … and she seems not all too fond of her client as well.

Emmett and Drew are progressing… and fast! That’s really good; Em deserves a Partner of his own. And in my head those two fit perfectly.

Cynthia disposing of the cloudless admirer is also great and well deserved. I just hope he never shows up again to cause more trouble for Brian.

Well, I think, I'm caught up with everything ... and in that regard: I'm looking forward to the next chapter.

Greetings to all bees

55.   Hm, I don't know if I should like Debs attorney or not. On one side she seems like a no bullshit-woman, but what she implied toward Vic is not going to go down well. And of course we know from whom he got the money to pay Debbie back... from Brian.

So the other fact that we got out of these flashback is that Michael as Teenager already was an ignorant and unpleasant Person. Self-centered, with not the slightest regard for the privacy of others, always seeking his advantage...

How could he not know where Deb has her first aid kit? And obviously this was the first and probably the only time that Michael has taken care of Brian injuries. Does he really think, if he has done it one time he can weave a munchausen syndrome out of this now?

And what should I make of this surprise trip to Florida? What was the reason the Kinneys took their Children out of town? Did Joan think Deb would call Child service regardless of her paying her because in that instant she was the one who abused Brian? And I think this is where the last 5000$ were spend...

Joan Kinney at her best... every attorney who is saddled with her has my sympathy. But I don't understand why Arthur gets a recording of this. I thought attorney/client-confidence would prevent such exchange – but well, I'm no attorney myself and customs may be different to those in Germany. In any way it will only help Brian's case...

Kinnetic staff benefitting from Justin's sulk is a nice touch – the dense admirer not so much. He has no concept of the dangers he is about to stir up. But on the other hand, he is a complication Brian does not need. Such people as this idiot will only cause more unnecessary trouble because they feel slighted and will try to seek unjustified revenge…

See you at the last one…

54.   Michael!! Attention seeking, disruptive filth!!! *growl* Well, at least he got that one symptom right even if he mistook the kind of attention he is supposed to seek as a patient with Munchausen. Allegedly attempted suicides are not part of the picture! It is something of a relieve that nobody seems to buy his woe-attempt… not even his mother.

Yeah! Emmett is getting his Quarterback! Great and about time!

And our favorite couple has fun, even if there are some stiff consequences (*giggle*) and is making plans… looking forward to what Justin is coming up with…

And going forward to 55…

53.   Gus is such a great little dude! Pointy bits! Hilarious … and yeah those pointy bits profit from vegetables too! And out of the mouth of babes: his names for the mean animals are pointedly fitting. I have an inkling that this wee man knows exactly who was Justin's inspiration as he drew them – never underestimate the understanding and observation skills of a child! Monumental mistake!

Oh hey, what's this?? What was Robbi talking about as she said 'she could, just one more time, manage to screw a Kinney'? Was she talking about Lindsay's extortions from Brian or was this meant in a sexual way? And what Kinney would she mean? Why do I have the idea in my head that Robbi didn't talk about Lindsay and Brian at all? My first thought as I read this was: Woah! Nancy and Jack! But I don't know why…

Michael is indescribable! How can a human being stalk thru its life and not even once attempt to take its destiny in the own hands? How can it be that there is not the slightest semblance of ambition to achieve something of his own account? At least something legal? – because criminal ambitions are certainly there. How can he not be bored out of his mind, if he does absolutely nothing for himself in his life? Michael's life passes him by, and he doesn't even attempt to achieve anything of which he could say: look! I made it! He will not leave a legacy for his daughter - no loving memories or treasured items or a sense of proud of her father's achievements - and it doesn't bother him at all...

As I stated bevor: In my opinion there is no question; Michael has a waste array of mental illnesses. But now he will seek a carte blanche because of a mental illness he didn't have?! And of that fact I'm sure! A symptom of Munchhausen by proxy is that someone causes harm to another person so they could take care of the hurt party and therefor receive praise and recognition for their dedication. So yeah, Michael caused Brian harm but he never took care of him – that part he has left to his mother.

Lindsay is served her first restraining order… well deserved and surly not the final strike of the Kinney-Clan…

See you shortly at 54…

Hello to you busy bees,

... the Southern French winds didn't blow me away, so I'm back! Now I will be catching up on the chapters and their reviews... I will split them again…

52.   Hehe, Brian certainly gets a surprise as everyone tells him how Mrs Kinney's attempts to join a new parish were thwarted. And Mami for sure is a resourceful woman. Introducing the priest to his husband (even if this sadly can only be an unofficial title, because catholic priests as it's well known aren't allowed to marry – not even a women, let alone a man) clearly brings her in a very influential position. And oh how free and casual she is in all things sexual… very open-minded for a woman of her age. She even puts Brian to shame in this regard.

Lynette and Frederick will be a good match. He seems like a nice guy with principles and no gold-digging aspirations.

Lindsay and Nancy are pushing each other to new heights in lowliness. It looks like they want to outdo each other in their malicious ways. Nancy being annoyed that she can't get Frederick fired because he was faster and swapped jobs with Daph (and I'm so looking forward to the first time Daph will have to chauffer the hyenas… it will be epic!) only shows her general misconduct and malevolence regards every other human being. And Lindsay deliberately shakes the last traces of common decency she might possess. Misplaced sense of responsibility? Really??

Deb and Michael… well, Miss Grassi has finally grasped the true nature of her son, but I'm not sure what will come of this because there were other points in the story when it made the appearance as if she would turn things around and two seconds later she dropped right back into the mess… Michael on the other hand is as pathetic as ever, if not more so! The mere thought of ever being in Brian's vicinity again – he definitely has no concept of reality anymore. But at least he finally read one of his court papers…

The scene at Joan's house was a true bonbon… topping of the chapter.

And onto chapter 53…

Hi Ladies,

Well, there I am… again to slow… and leaving reviews to two chapters:

50: So Lynette is about to turn the table on her mother and Lindsay. The Lady seems to be an unstoppable force all on her own and it is a satisfying prospect that it seems she has the drive and the money to squash the leeches in her family. Ron has chosen his favorite daughter wisely even if I'm sure that he originally hadn't wanted to choose and differentiate.

This whole conversation of the Peterson's shows clear what convoluted views of the world around them and life in general Nancy and Lindsay have. Why do they begrudge the kids their presents? Do they think Lynette should bring the new baby up to be as much of a spoiled brat as Nancy did with her favorite daughter? As a narcissistic, egomaniacal, unable to share and greedy parasite? Well, this would surely be the masterplan if Lindsay would raise the kid herself.

It's still incomprehensible to me how people can be so self-absorbed. There is not the littlest consideration of anything that is not immediately profiteering for either of them may it be money or even the health of supposed loved ones. I'm so hoping that Ron can cut them of the money-supply, so that they will really struggle to support themselves and maybe learn a thing or two.

The Grassi/DeVore's are continuing to delude themselves about the chances they have to step back in Brian's life because these are exactly nil. The idea alone that Brian would waste a single positive thought on Michael is ridicules and even the negative ones will diminish and disappear once the trial is thru.

Robbis confrontation with them was hilarious. Michael seemed to think his headmistress has good memories of him? Well, wrong in so many ways. Didn't he hear that she was there because of her 'favorite' and 'A*' pupil? Both descriptions clearly don’t fit Mr. DeVore at all – but well, we all know that he thinks of himself as of genius-level intelligence… he even said so himself in an earlier chapter…

The icing of the cake was Cynthia appearing on the battle line. Oh how long has this girl waited for her chance to have a go at Michael? And she delivers the cold hard truth beautifully and formfitting. Some extensive restraining orders and every single ugly piece of unwanted and unfitting memorabilia destroyed and discarded at Michael's feet (or his head) - if he still doesn’t grasp that Brian really, absolutely and finally don’t want anything to do with him anymore, there is nothing that will help him anymore.

And yes, Deb will wait an eternity for Michael to 'be a man'; she herself saw to it that this will never happen. Only it seems as if she finally would begin to see what an hopelessly warped creature her son actual is… but that realization is slow going, so very slow.

51: Lynette and Ron finally fulfill the roles they deserve: Aunt and Grandpa. And it looks like they enjoy it. It's so cruel of Lindsay to deny them a relationship with Gus (and Jenny), but it fits in well with her antisocial behavior: after all the children could take the focus of attention away from her. How inappropriate. Nobody should get more attention (as in interpersonal and certainly monetary) than Lindsay, not even her biological son let alone the not-biological daughter whose father is an eternally penniless simpleton.

Well well well, look what reveals itself in the car! To all their assembled faults Nancy and Lindsay have, they are at least borderline racist. The father's heritage is of no consequence because Lindsay won't keep the baby? What utter bullshit! It shouldn't matter at all! I get very cross with people who look at the color of the skin to determine if they accept a human being or not... worse of course if it is also a family member. Ok, so, what will happen when Lynette adopts the kid and it isn't white? Anyway, I think it would be of no consequence because Lindsay and Nancy will never have an relationship with him/her.

Nevertheless I'm hoping that anyone had thought of bugging the car because both Nancy and Lindsay have freely admitted that they were unfaithful. I don’t know if Lindsay will seek spousal support from Mel again but this would go down the drain with a taping of this conversation, as are the claims Nancy would bring up in a divorce from Ron. Evidence of infidelity could strengthen his position significant.

I don’t know how I should summarize the conversation between the four vultures at Debs house. Has anyone gained anything from that? It may be not so wise on Debs part to give Lindsay her new number, but all in all this was a bust in my opinion – or I simply don’t get it…

It only became clear that Michael's mental instability is progressing. He becomes more and more violent and I'm sure Lindsay was lucky that Deb interrupted at the time as she did. He would have attacked her

The highpoint of this chapter clearly was the destruction of Mrs. Joan Kinney's attempts to join a new parish. I'm glad that Claire, Robbi and Vic stood up before the congregation and set things straight for them. There is progress in the catholic church, it may be slow but it happens and Father Shaw shows it. It is significant that Joan is more worried about a possible excommunication than about the ongoing trial against her or the fact that she is becoming increasingly isolated from any other human being. Firm faith is one thing, but to believe that one has the sole interpretive power of the scriptures and their meaning is presumptuousness in the most extreme form.

I'm really sorry for Brian because he certainly hasn't done anything to deserve so many mental ill people in his environment and I hope he can get rid of them for good... and fast.

I am so very impatient for the trail to progress and I can't wait to see them get what they deserve.

And on this note, I'm stopping…

Greetings

Katharina

It will take some time until I can leave the next review here, I'm going on vacation next week ...

Author's Response:

Hiya Katharina,

Wow, another long and great review.

Yes I too get bothered by people who discriminate. Not only on the color of the skin but also on gender or sexuality.
Can I say I love you for being so outspoken? Yes, I can and will. Girl, I admire anyone who can and will be so outspoken in this.

THank you for another lovely review.

Hi writers,

At first I have to apologize for not reviewing for whooping 23 chapters… so sorry, but there is this annoying thing called Real Life and its demands – agonizing about potentially starting university at almost 40 not the least of it… and no, ultimately it will not come to that.

Well, what should I write now? As you see, I am still reading and I’m waiting with bated breath for every new chapter.

I am so unbelievably pleased that every one of the miserable excuses of human beings has gotten what was due to them. It is still hard to grasp that especially Michael to this day hasn't got a clue about how despicable he really is - but well, he only tops off the charts of the most monstrous deviancies, Joanie well on his heels.

On a storyline point of view I have to say that the Memphis plot seems a bit much to additionally pack into this already big story - at least in the extend it gives the impression it will take. If it had just been mentioned it would be fine, but he seems to become a big plot point with all the accompanying writing-hassle entails. In my opinion the poor guy simply disrupts the flow of the story a bit… but that’s just a thought of a fellow writer who happens to walk in the same trap of packing to much in one single Story ones or twice, no offence meant.

Now I really, really want to see Michael utterly cowed. He is still the one with the least remorse (we will see about Joanie in this point). He destroyed his own live, almost killed his ‘best friend’ and still feels he is somewhat of the big shot. Maybe you could let him be even more stupid, landing him in with the hardened population of prison inmates? Child abusers are really not liked behind bars, malicious backstapping traitors also not...

Last thought in this review: I am so content with the developments for Brian and Justin; happily married, free of all the old trash (for now at least), co-parenting Gus... nice breather.

I am looking forward to new chapters and I will try to review again...

Greetings to you all

Katharina

Author's Response:

Hi Katharina

Welcome back! so lovely to hear from you.

Thanks for the review and would like to clear up the Memphis part, he will not be a big plot point, like you say, there is enough going on with this. No offence was taken.

Utterly cowed you want...then utterly cowed you will have my dear!

Happy reading

Hi again,

Ok, so Robbi and Vic uncovered the reason why Debbie blackmailed Joan. I am distressed at the thought but I have to admit that I see this as a tiny little bit of redeeming reason for what she did. It is still unspeakably wrong in its entirety but I can understand it to some extent. She needed the money to safe her Brother. But – and it is a BIG but! – why the heck was she using Brian? She could have easily blackmailed Joan with her embezzlement. The result would have been the same, but Brian would not have suffered as much as he did. I thought she loves him? Seems not to be the case…

Virago… well, I know that's a negative used word in English (as it is in German too to an extend) but knowing the Latin meaning I'm inclined to say it is really not the fitting name for Debbie. Heroine, Hero-Virgin, Goddess... even masculine looking ones - no, really doesn't fit at all. She's no virgin and definitely no heroine.

Nancy and Lindsay don’t seem to grasp that they are on the losing side. They are restlessly fishing for information's of Ron's financial exploits and don’t realize that he has them fishing in the dark and is clearly protected from their sticky fingers in his wallet.

Looking at Roberta cleared some things up in regards of her brother. She worked all her live regardless of her husband's net worth, which was insipid as Nancy announced. As for his sister, Society reputation and grandstanding are no concern for Ron therefore no manipulation possibility for his women. He strikes me as the type of man who would live happily as long as he is able to live comfortably off his own achievements and Brian and Mel allowed him to see his grandchildren; with no ties to the overbearing WASP-nest.

And I am absolutely sure he will do everything to prevent that Lindsay will bring up the new baby to her way… he is scheming like a pro. I can see that Ron is starting to reign in his demon-daughter and is about to put her on a very short leash. It is a stroke of genius on his part that he will Lindsay make the personal assistant of her sister – only question will be which one will kill the other first, because I don’t think Lindsay will be any good at being a PA.

Ok… Mikey provided us not really with new news. His reasoning and scheming and lying… same old, same old. And Debs Pride will be short lived. Trying to use Lindsay to weasel their way back to The Avenue is another plan to combust on them

So, I am waiting… impatiently!

Later!

Katharina

Oh… almost forgot: what plot-point did I give to you? I'm always happy to help. But I truly didn't catch it.

Author's Response:

Hi Katharina,

I hd no idea what Virago meant in Latin, you're right ill fitting for Miss Grassi.

Love reading your reviews and will be posting over the weekend we promise. As for the plot point, we were trying to work out how to bring Lindsay back and you prompted an idea. So once again thank you!

Happy reading

Hi Mädels,

Well, John clearly shows one thing: the Kinney-genes (… or maybe they are from Joan?) are fantastic if they are applied right and they are assertive. They have wrestled every other gene-pool into submission; John Sr.'s as well as Lindsay's. And if they are used to their full potential there is no stopping someone who has them.

Arthur and John seem to have figured out what was going on with Michael and it is no surprise that it was plain old jealousy to cause his wrecking of Brian's life. Disturbing on this realization is that Michael even as a 14-year old was a conniving sleazebag without any consideration and sympathy who doesn't even try to make a future for himself due to lack of drive and his boundless laziness. Even at that early date he didn't waste a thought on any possibility regards an proper education or a good paying job, his only goals seemingly were to wriggle thru life without lifting a finger, exploiting from whatever source would show. And he already was a thief too… lifting Debs diary – I don’t think she 'lost' it.

The Taylors being the connection to Ron is good; they know how to communicate with him so that his appendages don't realize what's going on. And he really seems to work toward a relationship with Gus and Jenny. I'm looking forward for the approaching Ron-Peterson-Jailbreak from the Nancy-Rock… and his warden is still thinking he is afraid of the society-sharks…

It was a great surprise that Ron's sister is Brian's and Mikey's old principal. She really seems to have a detailed knowledge of Brian's history and she does like him; that much is clear as day. Well, her relationship with her niece and sister in law are the exact opposite. This woman will do everything to rescue Ron from those run-down hyenas… helping Brian will be an added well received bonus with nearly as big a magnitude. It's good that she can provide a look into the distend past and bring some of the happenings to the attention of the family, like Debbie's look on Michael's and Brian's grades or such things. Robbi is a force to be reckoned with; Deb and Joan should better seek cover.

See you at chapter 48…

46.       Oh yes, nobody will take their money… very prophetic statement. And it will become even more difficult.

Mikey the Lunatic strikes again and again he needs another person to fight his wars for him. In the military this is called proxy war. The saddest thing is that there are still people who want to fight for Michael and he flat out lies and let them walk right into a trap. He is devious, treacherous and malicious without even trying to be – he simply is. Combined with an lacking intellect, profuse egoism and abundant laziness you have one very unpleasant person.

I'm almost a bit sorry for David Cameron, because he is basically one of Michael's victims. Dr Dave still had hope for a future with Michael but it has always been based on false assumptions. Because of Michaels lies he seems to think that Brian was the reason why his relationship collapsed but he's definitely awakened by now. And he asks the right questions: why should he spent his money on a lost cause? And why doesn't Michael use his own money to pay his lawyer? And above all others: why did Michael lie to him and to his lawyer?

Mark Richards also walks straight into Michaels trap. He can't do his job when he doesn’t have the facts and he really doesn't like to be lied to. It's only consistent that he withdraws from the case. What I'm a little apprehensive about is that he will be a witness for the prosecution – what about lawyer/client-confidentiality? How can he break this? Normally this would be an offence…

Conclusion of the first day in court is probably that Joan Kinney will be stuck in the avalanche of offended lawyer, mounting evidence and disgusted fellow human beings without a single sign of remorse. Deb has a rare blip of common sense in seeking single representation and Mikey can't help himself about spouting shit about others to others but it is good that all the others were standing up for Brian. Anyway, Mr. DeVore is on the verge of sinking, fast and deep…

And YES!!! Carl and Del are married! Great! Now Brian has a Mom and a little Brother… looks like an episode of 'This could be your live, Miss Debora Jane Grassi!' and I really hope it hurts, she has earned it.

Phew! Finally finished... I started this three times. RL and people were getting in the way...

Later!

Katharina

45.       Hm… should I simply continue with my Chapter 44 rant? Michael really doesn't get it that he isn't wanted around The Avenue? What does he want there? There is nothing for him there! He lies to himself if he thinks there would be anyone who would support his return attempts, but we all know that he isn't brave enough to even really try this. He will wait and hope that Deb will at some time somehow find a way to provide him again with the easy and comfortable life he always lived and of which he is convinced that he is entitled to.

Michaels behavior speaks more and more of an assortment of serious – and considering he is Debbie's son with high probability hereditary – personality disorders; a split personality non the least. He swings from whiney to malice to fearful cowering to aggressive to petulant to... yeah... pick one, it will hit the target...

Justin and Brian have taken one major step into their future – raw sex equals a very serious commitment… and it also equals a significant emotional progress on Brian's part.

Emmett is sweat as he discussed this epic event with Ted and Ben. Even if the three of them are making a little fun of it they show quite a bit of respect – as it should be in general. It is great to see how normal they can talk about such delicate things as relationships and emotions if there is no source of interference.

So and onto the last one… see you at 46…

44.       ok… no… I will not say it again… no, nono… oh, damn it! I will say it again: I cannot understand this people!! I know, there is the saying "Every man for himself!" but that is becoming really ridiculous very fast! Are these two not able to decide whether they are for or against each other? At one minute Deb would love to powder Mikeys butt and give him a pacifier, in the next she'd like to deliver him to jail herself. And on top of all the bullshit these two produce they have the gall to rail at one another because he/she was so out of line with his/her behavior toward Brian? What a hoax!!

Anyway, it shows how small Debs ability to love someone unconditionally is. Even her son is a simple means to an end. I sometimes wonder if Deb maybe tried to tie Devina down with her pregnancy (because you had to get married if you we expecting at that time) and she simply jumped ship at the right time? Maybe Devina DeVore could be another ally? A source of information and a character witness for Debbie Grassi or better said, a witness to her lack thereof?  Oh, and what is Deb doing? Is she lying to Michael (again) or does Pearl really have a video?

Well, at least the papers are served and Brian kept his cool. This court cases will sting way more if they are served cold and yes, they are ice-cold! And Joan will feel it too – I really hope there will be some members of her parish who will attend the trial maybe to support her and then to see what a hypocrite and overall coldhearted and simply bad mother she is.

And what a pathetic worm Michael is! What does he think Emmett will do? Be compassionate? Help him? Turn even more against Deb? How often does he need to be said that he is not wanted, needed or even tolerated? Well, Michaels ant-sized brain may not have the capacity to grasp it… The last scene shows overly clear what a floppy, lily-livered, weak-willed, spineless coward he is… (waaah, can't stand him! But that doesn't show, right?)

Hi Ladies,

Well, so this was great… I'm honest, my impatience reared its head a little, but the wait was worth it! 4 Chapters at once – wow! Impatience is truly satisfied...

First I have to make a statement regarding our lovely boys and their developing and thriving relationship because I know that these scenes doesn't feature much in my reviews: I really love those little domestic scenes with Brian and Justin cooking, shopping and generally living a normal life. And of course the hot ones are great as well… but truthfully I must admit that I can't really enjoy them as much as I normally would because I really want to know what happened to the assembled human garbage. I'm chewing nails and hibbel in my seat while reading, because I want to know what happens to them and how long it takes them to finally come to the realization that they have probably really done something wrong… slim chance for that, I know, but well…

So… onto the reviews (I have split them this time, because it would simply be too long for a single one)

43.       Michael seems to like his little power trip, short-lived as it will be. Pathetic little moron. Is he really thinking Deb would do as he bids? But for her it could be the long overdue reality check, but I doubt it will be. She may be angry over her son's behavior but this will be undoubtedly be anybody else's fault not his and certainly not hers. Anyway, it is really interesting to see how close the two of them are working together toward a common goal… not. Especially Deb seems to do everything to sabotage Michaels footing in this whole mess by contributing to his stalker file amongst other things. At one hand I can understand this because he crossed many lines in his behavior (and to top it off says his mother is fat… well, Mr DeVore is really not an athlete himself!) but it will not bring anything positive for the Grassi/DeVore's if they turn against each other.

Ok, now… the Peterson 'Ladies' are in for a rude awakening. Those two leeches seem to think they are still in the position to manipulate Ron and skim money from him. If the two of them would turn of their superior complex and pay attention to him they would easily see that the man is way above any fear of reputational loose (as Nancy is clearly thinking) and in the process of crafting a future without them. He will bid his time until his grandchild is borne and then he will take actions: divorce Nancy, strip of Lindsay parental rights to the new baby, disinherit her (and maybe even Lynette?). While I can't see Ron raising the Baby, maybe he has a plan for it? I don’t know but there is this nagging feeling that there is a sibling who comes with a great family, many aunts, uncles and additional grandparents... maybe? And how Lindsay and Nancy would spit feathers at that, ha! Aaaaand of course: I'm so looking forward to find out what Roberta's take on the whole situation will be. There's Reinforcement for the gaggle I bet!

Arthur is a godsend to this family. It is evident how disgusted he is over his mother in law and her fellow witch of Pittsburg. He wants to protect his wife and her sons but it is good to see that he doesn't keep secrets. He will bring the Witches and the worm down hard – it's unbelievable that they still think they didn't do any harm or even anything wrong.

I'm really pleased with Claire. She has shaken her past and is the loyal encouraging older sister Brian always deserved. It will be the single most important experience for Brian to have someone blood related to him who will support him thru everything that may come of this…

And YES! One time Jack Kinney reaped what he sowed! And Brian was out the door, never to return – and thanks to Mikey… well, Lady Destiny has a laughing fit!

and on to Chapter 44...

Reviewer: Morwen80 Signed
Date: Apr 26, 2018 Title: Chapter 42: The Winner Takes It All The Losers Have To Fall

Hello Ladies,

and on to the new developments ...

40.       OOOh yes! It is disturbing how weak WASP men in general seem to be, but Ron finally grows some balls! And he will need them! Whenever Lindsay opens her dirty mouth, the lies just fly out and her mother doesn't seem much better. Well, I'm a woman and I know that almost every woman on this planet works with this very special set of weapons and skills that we have, I even concede that WASP ladies are somewhat more adept in using them in this coy little gender war – but Nancy and Lindsay are definitely well over the appropriate measure! There is nothing coy or sweet about them, they are amoral, malicious and asocial harpies and Ron should get rid of them as fast as he can. It is only right that the Taylors – in essence Justin – set the man straight about the things Lindsay was/is up to so he can react in an appropriate manner.

Ah Claire! Now that she has put her foot down and acts like she wants, that woman is so sweet, big sister and all. It is funny to see that the siblings know their weak spots even after so long … and don't hesitate to use them. And to think that Lindsay believes Claire would side with her! These Times are well and truly over. And yeah, there are blood relations out there who are on Brian's side.

41.       There we go! The first meeting of the new forming Kinney clan takes place. It is a relief that Brian gets a somewhat normal home-live with Justin, the Kids and the rest of the clan… and yes this would be the remains of the old gang plus the Kinney-Fitzgeralds, the Taylors, the BK-Support group(s) and in hopefully not so distant future Ron.

On another note: It is nice to see that John and Peter act like normal Brothers. I bet that under the influence of Grandmother Joan such behavior was not allowed. God forbid the boys could come near each other - bodily and emotionally!

And Claire seems to have hit the Jackpot with Arthur! He has a good job, seems genuine to love her, is relaxed and respectful of the 'people with alternative lifestyles' in her life. And he jumps right into the fire: if Arthur manages and brings the case to a courtroom, there will be no chance in hell that Michael can keep his currently suspended rights to Jenny-Rebecca! They will be permanently withdrawn, because even when he was still a child himself, he was actively abetting the abuse of another child. And it will not help his custody case that his mother did exactly the same thing. Further criminal charges notwithstanding. And these will come and they will go down... hard! Even if there should be finally no conviction, I hope there is extensive reporting in the newspapers - and not only the 'gay' papers! After all, Brian is a respected businessman and important employer in the Pittsburgh area... they will be dead to everyone, nobody will touch them with a pair of pincers. The realtors are already making the start, thanks to Ron!

42.       äh… is Mami really in her seventies? I pictured her as mid-fifties, a little older than Jennifer but in the same general age group. Tall but not to slim, with glasses and a no-nonsense attitude when it comes to people she doesn't like; somehow like Del... or Del's mom if she really is that much older. (oh, by the way: what does 'goosed' mean? Didn’t catch this one.)

It's really sad that Brian is still so haunted by his past - the boys defiantly are right, he needs to speak to someone. It may be a no-go for Brian but maybe Justin can convince him that a Psychologist may help him to overcome the insecurities and the lingering hurt and fears.

Well, Michael and Deb clearly have their priorities straight… even if they seem to differ exceedingly! Deb is still deluding herself in thinking she would be able to step back in her rightful place, when she only can beat Brian and Vic back in shape. Like anybody would take her back! And Michaels ultimate and only concern is money … even his comics aren’t really important. Interpersonal relationships? Fuck them if they don’t do exactly as the godlike Michael DeVore wishes and woe those who dare to have their own mind.

It's refreshing to see how blindly they fall into Vic's carefully designed trap. The fine may not be high but every little incident ultimately sums up to a stalking charge. And look how deeply affected Michael is by the loose of his precious (oh yes, there's a distinctive similarity to Gollum. Does little Mikey wither now, too, since his 'ring' burned in the fires of 'Mt. Highwater'?)

Aaaaaand here we are! Deb begins to see the true colors of her bighearted, selfless and over all measures generous son!! What immeasurable surprise that her standard guilt trip doesn't work on him! He will kick her to the gutter if it so pleases him.

It really really pains me immensely, but I must say that I can't condemn Michael entirely. If this speech would come from Brian I would cheer him on because he isn't completely wrong with his assessment of Debs behavior - because therein lays the root of all the evil...

and now I'm waiting impatiently for more

Greetings to you all

Katharina

Author's Response:

Hiya,

Danke schön Kathatrine for yet another great review.

I love the way Brian new family slowly but surely grows and gains strenght. Finally Brian get's the love and attention he yearned for all his life. All of them together will see an end to the terrible trio.

They have dug their grave and now have to lie in it.

I love your Lord of the Rings comment. Yep, Michael has lost his precious along with his mind for who does he think he is for treating his mother like this. Debbie might not be the best of mothers but no child should threat their parent like this.

The only way she can get to him now is by taking away his money for that is the most important thing in his life.

Looking forward to your next review. They are always fun to read.

Bis zum nächsten mal,

Hello Writers-Flock,

next epic Review is due. I am seriously to slooooow to keep up with you...

37: oh yeah, Witches Sabbath in the Pitts! And here we go again… Ms Grassi and Mrs Kinney at their worst. But no more tantrums or rants because they will never change - I have finally resigned and abandoned all hope that anything in this direction will ever happen. Nonetheless: I am very sure that every action will be followed by an appropriate reaction - the queens, bears and fairies of Liberty will never forget... and beware! Annihilation step 2 is brewing

And I'm so immensely pleased with Justin! He will protect poor stunned Brian with everything he has, wicked, cutting tongue and all. Let your inner WASP sting, Sunshine!... If only it weren't such a shame that absolutely nothing of what he says will trickle into their brains

Lindsay... well, let's say she kills every little glimpse of seemingly decency with boat-loads of crap - and slowly but surely she will sink in it.

38: Ha! Brian is back and lays down the law. He is so finished with his so called mothers and I so wish he would go through with going to Joan's church...

In one point, however, I have to contradict Brian in all this: he isn't motherless. He has Del and will have Jen, to some extent Mami and her gaggle... plenty enough mother-figures in his live.

And there are some really fiercely loyal fag hags around him - Daph and Cyn are some scary Ladies. They will bite everyone's head of if it is necessary.

The interaction between Lindsay and Debbie shows to me how boneheaded Deb really is: she seems to think that Michael will be the good son and support her. But in this regards Lindsay is right: Michael will drop his mother like a hot potato if it seemingly benefits him. She will be on her own and should really try to bring her sheep in the dry… but I don't know if crossing both Michael and Lindsay is actually the best way to do so.

I love how Justin takes care of Brian, helps him to unwind and getting his thoughts of things.

39: Wow! There is actually a Kinney who gets it! Claire has overcome her disturbing legacy of sermons and punches. She ripped her kids out of this toxic environment and doesn't repeat the disgusting mistakes that her mother apparently still considers admissible. Claire seems to love her gay son ... and yes, her gay brother too!

So, Joan told father Tom what happened? And he saw through her woe-story and called her on her bullshit. Rightly so! But naturally Joan knows best what God wants and what his words mean, better as her fellow church-goers, and certainly better as a priest! And Joan has the gall to call Claire sanctimonious? Oh really??? What a black souled Witch-Bitch!

When she leaves her church, what will she do? St. Joan will be all alone: she condemned her Children, she doesn't have Friends, there seems to be no other family members... will she live as hermit? Read the Bible and live on air and booze alone?

Well, in my opinion Claire's 'duty as a daughter' doesn’t exist, as she was saying. Joan has forfeited all rights of getting help from both her children.

Is there a possibility for adult children to be emancipated from their parents? Maybe Claire and Brian should start a legal procedure that severs any connection to her? No inheritances for them but also no further responsibility for Joan. (Here in Germany adult children have to pay for nursing homes and care even if they are estranged to their parents if these can't afford it. It takes extensive legal actions to rectify this – if there is actually a chance at all.)

Debs recon-mission clearly doesn't go according to plan. Vics handling of his obnoxious Sister is very good and I knew it! He didn’t want to share a name with her. It's sweet that Vic and Rodney got married but it is sad that Rodney died… they should have had a longer married life together.

Am I right when I think Vic laid one carefully crafted trap before Debs feet by telling her the addresses? There are still these restraining orders of Mel and Ben out there. Deb and Michael will break them if they come to Mels door...

It's great that Jen and Craig are so committed to Brian. The Taylors have fully figured out Lindsay's games and are suitably equipped to stop them.

However, what I do not really understand yet, is what Debbie wants to achieve by sending her notebook to the Petersons. Sure, the information that Lindsay has $ 70.000 sabotaged her attempts of trying to squeeze more money out of Ron, but it does not benefit Deb… hmm...

and now I am waiting for the next developments

and I slip from one rant into another.

I really like how Brian's and Justin's relationship is progressing. And it is nice to see a story where Brian can cook. The Kids and the Dads are another point that’s simply sweet. *g*
I'm looking forward to the Witches Sabbath also known as Debbie and Joanie-Showdown and how long does it take for Mel to register that Deb has broken the restrain order as she was clearly too close to her in the store? I'm seeing an arrest in the near future of one Ms. Debbie Novotny…

I'm waiting impatient for more reading material

Thank you for your wonderful review.

I guess Debs will never change and it looks to me that as you stated, she found another witch to work with. Love the term Witches Sabbath by the way.

We are busy writing the next chapter.

Hey Ladies,

I don't get it. I really do not understand it! Why the heck can't Debbie see that she is heading straight for hell? In every sense of the word.

I really don't expect anything else from Michael; he is just that stupid, even if he thinks he's a genius. And really, Mikey? You could be 'all ass and mouth' for Brian? You are a gargantuan ass and your filthy mouth is already so big you can't shut it even if your life would depend on it!

But Deb? I thought of her as being a relatively intelligent woman who at least possesses peasant cunning, but she seems hell-bent to make life unbearable difficult for Brian. Does she not see that if she does not stop, she will gamble away every chance on getting even the tiniest help from Brian and the people of Liberty in the future? Not that I think he would even consider something like that at all anymore.

Well, I think, Deb and Michael are something akin to Vampires. These bloodsuckers need feeding, they need someone to give them blood or they wouldn't survive. And the Novontys need People twofold: They prey on the emotional – and in Brian's case even bodily – suffering and are sucking life-energy and joy out of the people around them, family and friends, so they can feel superior. A trait that they share with Lindsay too.

And on the other side they need People around them that are successful to a degree, because success equals Money and Money is all they want. They need People who they can manipulate or guilt into financing them because it goes without saying that they 'owe it to us'. Debbie and Michael are contrary to what they say and believe themselves weak, dependent and aren't self-sufficient. Without someone they can feed of they are going to sink… or burn, to stick with the analogy.

Yes, yes, I know there are other parts of this chapter but Deb and Michael make my blood boil… and then it goes like this:
