Justin offering to be Brian's addiction, oh, bless him, I get why he said it, but I am glad it pissed Brian off, he doesn't want Justin to be that, Justin means MORE to him than that :)

Holy SMOKES, I finished reading this proper full on crying. Firstly. I assumed the cancer had come back, so when he mentioned his mom had come to see him, I then automatically assumed she was ill - so when you mentioned that it was Claire, well, that threw me. I always assumed Brian and Claire had been close as kids and had only grown apart as they got older and before she got sucked in by her mother (and the church) or her good for nothing husband. And that despite everything, he still loved her. I pictured Jack starting on them both as children and them only having each other, so of course, he'd be upset, even if she was now a complete and utter bitch.
My heart breaks for him here. I know you wrote this years ago, but I'd love to see what happened next. How did the boys react when he stepped in to help? Did he become a part of their lives after Claire died? Did Brian and Claire make amends before it was too late?
That was so wonderfully written. I admit, I do love me some hurt/comfort stories, especially when Justin is the one doing the caring for Brian <3

Thanks Sally ;-) *Hands you a Kleenex* You hit the nail on the head when it comes to my understanding of Brian and Claire as well. Although Brian had issues with his family, I got the sense that he was family orientated. If he wasn't, he wouldn't have been so upset when Jack died, nor so upset by Joan's reaction to his being gay. And - despite everything - he still agreed to watch Claire's kid for her when she asked. She and Brian bicker and don't see eye-to-eye, but they still have the sense of being siblings. I can see Brian being upset if Claire ever got a terminal illness.
I'm really glad you enjoyed this story. Like many of my stories, I keep thinking I need to write a sequel. I like this particular universe at Britin, and I would love to see where the future would take Brian and Justin in this case. Keep pestering. It may still happen *hugs*
