Hey Rody,

This is how that whole arc should have gone, even if it was a necessary evil at the time. Michael never would have had a chance to inject his two brain venomous cells into their relationship to separate them, and they would have had a chance to work out their problems in relative privacy. I really loved your take on this! If you ever wanted to pick up the story from here, I certainly wouldn't be opposed to reading it.

Author's Response:

LOL! Thank you, Nichelle! I'm glad I could provide you with a brief reprieve and that you enjoyed the fic. It was a lot of fun to write and especially fun to search for those pics!;) I almost had Emmett wearing a unicorn thong, but decided to stick with 'Cum Queen' and I am so glad I did. Thank you for reading and reviewing!

Yep Tag and Sally did write this one, but of course someone else could always do their own variation of the same premise. That's the beauty of writing. No two perspectives on a concept are ever alike. Similar? Possibly. But the never the same :-)

Definitely was MINE for the taking, and now a new series has been born! "Learning to Sleep In the Bed You Made" is actually shaping up quite nicely. So now that Installment #1: CLASH FORWARD is done, I'm trying to figure out where to go next. Originally, I thought it should be to Michael (and maybe it still should be), but there is so much going on. I think it would probably be better to do an intermittent one shot in this case titled, "Learning to Sleep in the Bed You Made 1.5: PLANS" or something like that, so that any full-length installment which comes next in the series won't seem so out of left field.

WHOO-HOO! This is FUN!

Hey Y'all!

Imagine my surprise to realize I'd never read this amazing one-shot! Everything was perfection! From the characterizations, both the internal conflict and external plot, everything was believable and incredibly well done. So much so, that even while sitting here reading it, I wondered what Michael had been doing while trying to systematically destroy Brian and Justin's marriage.

My mind generated so many ideas- everything from using whatever he would have received from Ben's estate (if anything) to having a celebratory announcement of their 'relocation' in the paper once he'd succeeded in getting Justin to finally (in his mind ONLY) leave Brian, while making plans regarding what to do about Gus. Honestly, I could even see Michael trying to find Lindsay to encourage her to reclaim her role as Gus's mother just so Brian's time would be freed up to devote to Michael's persistent delusion of being the Old Queens in Palm Springs. And I wouldn't have been surprised to find an 'Ode to Brian' shrine in Michael's living room, similar to Justin's painting.

Yep, like I said wayyyyy too many ideas! LOL

So anyway again, Ladies, this was one of those fics I will come back to again and again! Just WONDERFUL!

HUGS and MUCH LOVE,

 Nichelle

Is it wrong of me to hope that David keeps intentionally bumping the bastard's knee? I really do wonder what David will do with this new information. Considering that he's a doctor, he could lose his medical license due to withholding key information such as this. However, I understand how and why he is so desperate to make things work with Michael. The real question he needs to ask himself is: What could and would Michael do to him if he could have the heart to attempt to kill Justin based on some perceived slight?

Another question that should really be to the forefront of David's mind is: What would Michael possibly do to Hank if David didn't give the idiot enough attention the way Brian stopped doing when Justin entered the picture? If David takes the time to think rationally with a modicum of emotion about the consequences to himself and his son, then perhaps David will be so inclined to do the right thing NOW as opposed to waiting until he can't get rid of the murderous bastard in Portland.

Can't wait for the next chapter!

Happy Writing and HUGS,

~Nichelle

Author's Response:

I have to wonder if you are somewhat of a mind reader, or do you have a long lens, powerful magnifying glass? Since the next chapter has been written for a while, I almost thought about adding that 'bumping knee' suggestion. But alas, reality settled in, and Michael is sitting in the aisle seat. Hmm, maybe there can be a late-comer onto the plane... *wink*

Great chapter. I'm glad that David is wising up and sending Michael home. Although, part of me wishes he was going to take him there personally, I understand his need to be away from the whiny idiot as soon as possible. If it were me, I would have been plotting a hundred and one ways to push Michael into oncoming traffic while making it look like an accident. However, I think Michael being summarily dismissed as a nonentity, and being shown in a way that he's not David's endgame is a really good move. Somehow, I hope those particular medical records/ x-rays find their way to the Pitts P.D. when- not if, but when- Michael gets arrested. Could he possibly be detained by the FAA for causing such a horrific scene on the return flight to Pittsburgh? Hmm... just saying, LOL

YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!! Every facet of this chapter has made me so HAPPY!!!! I'm literally squeeing and bouncing up and down in my chair! I'm so glad that Brian actually HEARD what Michael said when he was told that Justin was going to be alright. For a moment, I thought that Michael was going to get away with it in all the excitement over Poor Widdle Mikey's jacked-up knee. But NO! Brian actually LISTENED! And I'm almost certain that he wasn't the only one besides Dr. Sheffield. It's not as though Michael is even capable of whispering, but in this instance that damn lack of brain-to-mouth filter is going to work in everyone else's favor EXCEPT his. Someone should call David and congratulate him on a plan well-played!

OMG! I can't wait for the next chapter!! Great job, Cathy!

BTW... Well wishes on your move. I hope that everything goes smoothly for you.

First, I'm well aware my response is very late in coming, so sorry about that. I'm trying to catch up on all of them tonight, especially with the last chapter ready to be posted.

I have a new tag to add to the story... so I hope nobody will be upset - it just worked best for the direction of the story.

I'm happy I got your stamp-of-approval. That means a lot. As I commented, I rewrote the hospital scene three times before I was told it might happen that way.

Anyway, I just figured Brian is no dummy or fool. H e actually listens.

I just wanted to extend a thank you for reading and reviewing all the time. I hope you enjoy how it all turns out.

I both LOVE and loathe the backstory from Brian and Justin's point of view. Hell below what an absolute NIGHTMARE Michael Novotny-Cameron is! David is an ass, who deserves every bit of trauma that's going to befall him with having Michael reenter his life. It's funny, but David is just too old NOT to realize that in most cases, an ex is an EX for a reason.

Anyway, I'm glad that Brian and Justin found a way to be together after all the turmoil, and without the family crawling all over their relationship. Was definitely sad to learn that Ted had relapsed for a time, but hopefully he's doing better. Also sad to know that Em's life is basically stuck in 'Park'. As for Meanie- I mean MELANIE- between her and Michael, I just don't know who's worse! Honestly, I would have expected that she would have let go of her bitterness, and the need to control everyone else's life by now, especially considering what her viciousness had so obviously done to another person. No Lindsay wasn't innocent, but Mel had her shit with her, too. I would have thought that she would have seen that, or that someone would have pointed it out to the shrew.

And WHEW! The little glimpse of Jenny that we did see just proved that having the DNA of both, Michael and Melanie, has created a Tyrant-in-Training. I wonder what would happen if/when Jenny begins to treat Melanie as Mel has treated everyone else herself. Nope, I don't see that situation going so smoothly at all!

Absolutely looking forward to MORE!

Date: Sep 20, 2019 Title: Chapter 3: Chapter 3

This was a great chapter, beginning with Ian and Gus' talk. I LOVE the fact that although they are 12 years apart, Ian treats Gus the same way as Brian treated Justin when it comes to puzzling things out. Ian doesn't handle Gus with kid gloves at all; just lays out the facts, makes his point, and holds Gus while he figures himself out.

I also really liked the meeting with Patrick and Gus. In fact, after the semi-rocky beginning, it went much better than I expected. I loved the way Patrick asked questions to really get Gus to think about his responses. But what I enjoyed most was Gus' reaction to Ian's meal choice. That was just the kind of humor they both needed to break the tension between them.

Ian's visit with Lindsay was both informative and heartbreaking. You almost have the feeling that she wants to remember, but is glad she can't. Mel really did a number on Lindsay, which ultimately caused Lindsay's mental break. And I'm pretty sure that whatever Mel wasn't able to accomplish, Michael was all too happy to take up the cause. What assholes!

Could there be a double wedding in the works? LOL That will certainly chap high-and-mighty Mel's ass! I think Gus and Ian's assessment of her selfishness and need to be obeyed was spot on. I also have a feeling she's going to catch all sorts of hell from Jenny. As Brian said, there's nothing like Karma and it's definitely coming for Melanie Marcus!

Looking forward to MORE!

Oh my heart is breaking for Lindsay. And my hate for Mel is burning so HOT right now! The mental and emotional abuse Lindsay must have had to suffer from that bitter woman must have been enormous. I don't know if I'm saying this right, but part of me is glad that Lindsay had her mental break if for no other reason then so her heart wouldn't continuously be battered by Melanie and her minion, Michael. However, between the two of them, they broke Lindsay's spirit. And that, to me, is just unforgiveable! I'm glad she will have the support of those who truly care for her well-being. Perhaps a visit from Ted and Emmett- especially the latter- might help, too?

As for Gus' conversation with Jenny, sadly it went just about as I thought it would. The little girl has indeed turned into her parents! I'm so glad that Patrick had a chance to witness it, and blow up at her for himself. He sure did lay into that little miss, and Gus' response to her was the icing on the cake! I hope that when Mel shows up, Gus lights into her even more harshly than the verbal ass whooping Jenny just endured. Selfish little bitches, ALL! And that especially goes for Melanie and Michael!

The talk between Brian and Ted, then later with Emmett, was long overdue and wonderful for all three of them. I was so HAPPY hearing that David has his Yapping Chihuahua on such a short leash. I'm almost anticipating his reaction to the news that Brian and Justin found their way back to each other, while not being able to do a damn thing about it without losing everything. Is it sad that part of me wants Michael to try to test the boundaries only for David to give him up to his fate of being completely alone and hopeless? To me, it's no less than what Michael would deserve for the mean manipulations he inflicted on Gus when he was ONLY six years old!

Anyway, back to the conversation between the three REAL friends of this tale: I am so glad that Brian convinced Emmett to join the exodus from Pittsburgh to New York. Brian addressing the situation of Blake and Ted's former relationship was definitely needed! I think he broke through to Ted by acknowledging that the reason he couldn't be happy with anyone else was because none of them could be 'Justin' for him. I believe that was something Ted really needed to hear. I can imagine that Emmett needs to hear it, too, but that' s going to take some time since Drew hasn't made a move.

What a wonderful chapter! I'm looking forward to the next and the meeting with the vacuous and venal Valkyrie herself... Melanie!

HAPPY WRITING and HUGS,

I absolutely LOVED reading about Michael's issues. Karma has come back for him in a HUGE way, especially since he always loved the feeling of control over everyone else. It must absolutely suck for him to know what being beholden to someone else feels like. I don't feel not one bit sorry for the little ingrate! He tried to play with everyone's psyche about him returning to David, only he's the one who's paying the ultimate price for his headgames.

I really proud of Deb here, for so many reasons. The first is that she's letting Michael face the consequences of his own actions. It's funny that he is seeing just how selfish and controlling he is from the otherside, and that Deb is not doing ANYTHING to bully David into letting Michael go as she might have done in the past. It shows major character growth on her part. Secondly, I LOVE that she's not expecting Brian to clean up the mess with Jenny that Mel is making. Deb, in turn, told Jenny the entire truth as she knows it instead of trying to sugarcoat the misdeeds that began this mess in the first place. She didn't try to force her opinion of the situation on Jenny, but gave her the fact so she could draw her own conclusions.

But what I was largely impressed with was that Deb didn't yell at Brian for keeping Lindsay's situation a secret from her. She didn't allow her inherent need to know everything get in the way of accepting Brian and Justin's reasoning in not telling her. Sure she would have wanted to help Lindsay, but Brian's right in that it would have broken Debbie's heart not to have been able to do so.

I LOVE EMMETT!!! That's all I can say about him. His and Patrick's banter was so adorable, and Brian sounding like a father was hilarious. But what I really love is that Em will have the up close and personal chance to see Gus and Patrick build their own dynamic separately from the circumstances of how they met. And not only that, but as rare as it was on the show, I've always loved to see Em in protective mode. I'm sure with Melanie coming, he's going to have plenty use for that awesome verbal sword he has.

EXCELLENT chapter, StarBaby and looking forward to MORE!

Hi again... I was just thinking about the conversation between Brian and Em in reference to David not wanting Jenny close by. Of course, David is just selfish enough to realize that Michael's attention would be refocused away from him and Hank. But I also think he's smart enough to realize that with Jenny's access to Deb's world outside of Michael, he wouldn't hesitate to use Jenny to gather information.

Beyond that though, the thing that stood out the most would be the fact that Mel potentially doesn't want to move back BECAUSE of David. So that made me wonder if there was some sort of agreement between Mel and David, possibly centered around Michael's support payments. I mean, if David is taking care of all of Michael's financial responsibilities, wouldn't that include Jenny's child support? And in turn for keeping the money flowing to her, could it be that Mel agreed to limit Michael's access to Jenny? A little extortion among Egomaniacs wouldn't surprise me in the least.

Fabulous chapter! Gus' visit with Lindsay had be actually near bawling at my screen. My heart really went out to both of them, and yet I think somehow they each made progress in their own ways. I believe that Gus is right in that it was cathartic for him in a major way. I also liked that Lindsay asked him about his relationship with Ian, and when Gus mentioned how Ian's friends treated him, Lindsay made the connection to the bet everyone was placing on Brian and Justin's happiness. Lindsay's comments to Justin definitely provided a new perspective in revisiting that particular scene.

YAY!! Mel is getting her eyes pried opened about a lot of things about herself and her motivations. The backstory on her bulljive throughout the years was extremely enlightening. While I hate David and all he stands for in this fic, I can actually be happy that he's thwarted her visions of having him for an ally while quarantining the human plague that is Michael Novotny. That's a major coup for him... and a well-deserved kick in his ears and brain since he has to wake up to that incessant whine everyday. You just CANNOT un-hear that constant cross between Evil Mickey Mouse and Pee Wee Herman. That damn voice could peel paint and singe eyebrows!

As far as Mel trying to throw her 'weight' around, that skinny ass chick better take several seats, open up her ears, and inhale a large dose of STFU! I'm so glad that Gus shut her down first with that VERY blunt text message, and then Deb with a whole lot of hard truths for her selfish ass. I have to wonder though... with Gus being 21 (or is it 23? I have to look again), shouldn't Jenny be somewhere close to 18? Or if not, at least near 16? If it's a case of the latter- and I was in Jenny's shoes- I would already be looking for ways to emanicipate myself away from the loose cannon that is Melanie. I believe the core requirements that Jenny would need is a life-sustaining job- preferably one that would offer benefits, even at a part-time status (ie: the local cable company), a place to live, and be willing to continue her education. It might be worth looking into for Jenny's peace of mind, because I can only see her life with that trouble-seeking missile Melanie getting worse as she's once again prevented from getting her way.

A little more about Jenny: I do actually feel a little sorry for Jenny, mainly because in that little bastard's spite and ignorance, he's taken the ONE person in Jenny's life that would have loved her unconditionally. Michael couldn't take the fact that Ben had found a reward in a new main squeeze after enduring the sufferance of Michael, so he punishes his own daughter for him not being able to keep a man (David doesn't count; he's just a controlling toddler with MAN parts). In all honesty, I STILL feel that Ben should be in line for sainthood in the Great Beyond simply for his charitable works in dating Michael! But I digress.

Anyway, it's really sad that Mel is not thinking of Jenny's feelings at all; only the money she would be losing by doing what's best for her daughter. I wish that particular tidbit of information had come out when she was confronted by Deb. But I have to say, good for Patrick showing his maturity- and also biting back- when Jenny made the snide comments so reminscent of those her mother would have made. Regardless that he may look like Sam, he is definitely Brian and Justin's son!

Looking forward to MORE!!

HAPPY WRITING and HUGS,
