Justin Taylor is a former marine, discharged after three tours in Iraq. He’s struggling to find his feet in the civilian world he has returned to and decides to go in search of the unknown man whose photo he believes was his good luck charm during the war. His search takes him to Pittsburgh where he meets Brian Kinney, who’s busy dealing with his own demons. Together the two men might be able to heal each other. Inspired by the movie/book of the same name.

Justin is living in NYC with his boyfriend, Connor James, who is an actor. He comes home from a trip to Pittsburgh to find a 'Dear John' letter from Connor who's gone to LA for a movie part. The next morning Justin wakes to find Brian Kinney pounding on his door, apparently thinking he's sublet the apartment. Brian is just starting a new job in NYC. Justin has nowhere to go either. It seems like the best solution is to just share the apartment, at least for a while. It pretty quickly becomes apparent though that these two men aren't exactly compatible roomies. But there's a definite attraction between them too. How are these two very different men going to handle cohabiting in a small apartment? 3 years after Justin left to take the NY art world by storm, Brian and Justin encounter each other during a crisis with the one person, other than each other, that really rocks their world, their son Gus. 

Watching the Rise and Shine Convention on youtube, I heard Randy say that he pictures Justin still being in New York today, having made a success of his art. He went on to say that he pictures the relationship between Brian and Justin as completely changed.

So, after I got over my initial screaming fit, bellowing nooooooo at the computer screen, much to the chagrin of my family...this is where my muse went with this new stimuli...

Brian had been restless.  For the first time in his life he found that he was growing tired of the same old routine.  He wondered, with the change of seasons, if something -  or someone  -  new might be possible in his life as well. Still, he knew it was unlikely that the type of man who could make the difference that had been on his mind was actually out there - and he was quite certain that if he was, it was more than a little improbable that such a man would just simply drop into his life...

Brian has been known to throw his friends off that now famous cliff, always with the best of intentions, but leaving the other party with absolitely no control in the matter. As much as I LOVE Brian, I thought perhaps he should feel the pain of being pushed off that cliff, with all the angst and heartache that accompanies the leap. 

Brian Kinney had a terrible childhood and a difficult, lonely life as an adult. Before the age of thirty he's already become so jaded that he doesn't believe in love or even in true happiness. After years of dealing with a dysfunctional family and an uncaring world, it seems like he's just about ready to give up completely. But, the guardian spirit that's been watching over him since Brian was a baby decides to save him, teaching him that true love does exist and that it can even transcend the laws of space and time.

Right before its time for advertising executive Brian Kinney to create the campaign for fashion designer Monsieur Honeycutt’s spring collection, Marty Ryder decides to retire. After the company is bought by Gardner Vance, Brian finds that he is no longer top dog and must now contend with Brandon Greene, one of Vance’s partners. As Brian fights for supremacy against Brandon at work and at play, Brian also becomes interested in the new director of the art department, Justin Taylor.

Unfortunately for Justin, Mr. Kinney happens to be his English teacher at St. James Academy, making their relationship even more forbidden than Romeo and Juliet’s. After signing up as stage manager for the school’s holiday play, which Mr. Kinney is directing, Justin learns that his teacher’s life is more tragic than anything Shakespeare ever wrote. 

The reason I picked Summer Of Sin for my admin pick is partly because it is so well written and the other reason is that the amazing Tagsit invited readers to come watch her write and maybe join in. I was curious, so I started watching her write. Then she would chat with those of us that had joined in getting ideas and suggestions. At one point she asked me why I didn't write my own stories, I said because I couldn't. She gave me the encouragement to try and now I love writing. Through her I have met some really great people.
